Oh and if I wanna quit caffeine, would that mean my morning vivarin is outa the question... I don't think I could survive!!! I have kids ya know!!
Hhhm... While House MD is my favorite show EVER IN LIFE, I'm going to have to disagree with it here.... I don't think we are doomed to move from one addiction to another. There is of course the DANGER that something we do to comfort ourselves during withdrawl might grow into a new dependancy, but I think if you keep your wits about you and realize there is the potential for such a thing to happen, you can prevent it. I haven't become "addicted" to anything i place of caffeine - I HAVE, however, changed my behavior so that I do certain things more often now than I ever did. For instance, I drink a lot of water and fruit juice. I also do yoga 3-4 times a week. I don't think these can really count for addictions, as I do not neglect my family in order to drink water or excersise, nor does doing these things make me late for appointments, nor do I prefer drinking water and excersising to going out with friends, nor do I have symptoms of withdrawl from frefraining for either activity for a few days. I mean - we HAVE to drink water, or we dehydrate - but that's not addiction withdrawl, that's just biology.
So basically, it depends on the person; if you are truly ready, and have the will, then you can do it - without picking up another nasty habbit on the side.
As for your daily vivarin - if you really feel you need this in order to get through the day, then I don't see why you would have to stop it COMPLETELY - taking Vivarin EVERY DAY might be a little risky - your body could build up a tolerance to it again, and you'll find yourself needing soda, tea or other methods of supplementation. That's another sign of addiction; when your original dose is no longer enough to do what it did when you first started dosing.
If you continued taking the

, however, you wouldn't be "quitting" caffeine - you'd just be reducing your daily intake. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is also a WONDERFUL idea...b/c it works both ways; When you stop taking a drug, your tolerance goes away, and the drug is then as powerful or MORE powerful for you than it was before your addiction. Once you've gotten yourself off the supplemental doses you get from soda/tea/etc, you'll find that your vivarin are FAR more effective than they ever used to be. This is why I would suggest doing at least 8 days off ALL caffeine - even the

. This will allow your system to completely detox and give you a fresh clean slate to start with.
In any event, I've talked far too much at this point
