Shu-Perman - that sounds really kewl... and I would TOTALY be interested in gettin' me somma dat. I'm moving this week. 'Nuff said

Cartman, I can't speak for everyone who's kicked caffeine, but for me it's everything; no chocolate, no caffinated teas, no soda, no coffee, no DECAF coffee - because, believe it or not, there is still 50mg of caffeine in a cup of decaf coffee

...it sounds like a lot of "nos," but tell you the truth... I really don't miss it. Someone offered me a soda today, and my Husband even said it might be a good idea to help me stay up to pack. I looked at the can and remembered how horrible it felt to detox - and didn't even have a second thought.
I think I'm off this stuff for good. I dunno... makes me all teary-eyed and proud of myself when I think about it. I don't like to toot my own horn, but that was one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I am so crazy glad that I did.

thanx Love :joy:
Nahh, we didn't buy a house. We're too young and adventurous for all that. I dont want to be tied down to a piece of land at this point in my life.
But the place we found is INFINITELY better than where we are now. We live in Bumble-crap New Jersey; my Husband has nearly an hour and a half to commute to work each way and it's getting rediculous. We're moving to Clifton - closer to his work, close to the school I'm going to in the fall, close to NYC, close to all our friends, close to hiking, horsebackriding, shooting ranges, close to....everything. And it's gorgeous too - more room than we have now, and it's the second floor of an actual house, in an actual neighborhood. ...which, I might add, is so safe that the older folks like to walk their dogs outside....after dark!!!
The place we live in now...well... the apartments are beautiful... but there's a drug-dealer living 2 doors down and 2 more on the other side of the complex. The cops r here at least twice a week, I don't go outside the apartment without an escort after dark, and we're always finding dime bags all over the ground - and I'm not talking just pot. Not to mention there is no such thing as a shower around here. Nope. Just being Frozen, or being Scalded. No shower.
We didn't find all this out until well after we moved here - the units are so nice though - it's very misleading.
Anyhow, enough ranting. i have to go to bed... big day tommorro!!! :jumping:

Wellllllll.... when we got married, almost precisely one year ago, this apartment complex was SMACK in the middle of our commutes - I was still going to school in Philly, and he works in Hackensack, right on the border of NYC. So we each had a 2 hour commute. It sucked so much.
Then, things started really going incredibly well for my Husband at work (thank g-d), so it became pretty much priority that he not have to kill himself getting there. It's easier for me to switch schools than it is to find a whole new job, so I'm transfering up here, and our commutes will be...oh...around 11 minutes on a bad day. HAHAHAHAH!!!!

Where u lookin to buy a house? And WHAT are you still doing up??

OK, Mmz... Got6ta a question for ya. I learned somewhere (probobly "House", LOL) that when you quit one addiction you start another and go at that one even more often. Like quitting smoking and starting eating for example... You gave up caffeine, did it cause you to start any other addictions. good or bad?
Oh and if I wanna quit caffeine, would that mean my morning vivarin is outa the question... I don't think I could survive!!! I have kids ya know!!

Hhhm... While House MD is my favorite show EVER IN LIFE, I'm going to have to disagree with it here.... I don't think we are doomed to move from one addiction to another. There is of course the DANGER that something we do to comfort ourselves during withdrawl might grow into a new dependancy, but I think if you keep your wits about you and realize there is the potential for such a thing to happen, you can prevent it. I haven't become "addicted" to anything i place of caffeine - I HAVE, however, changed my behavior so that I do certain things more often now than I ever did. For instance, I drink a lot of water and fruit juice. I also do yoga 3-4 times a week. I don't think these can really count for addictions, as I do not neglect my family in order to drink water or excersise, nor does doing these things make me late for appointments, nor do I prefer drinking water and excersising to going out with friends, nor do I have symptoms of withdrawl from frefraining for either activity for a few days. I mean - we HAVE to drink water, or we dehydrate - but that's not addiction withdrawl, that's just biology.

So basically, it depends on the person; if you are truly ready, and have the will, then you can do it - without picking up another nasty habbit on the side.
As for your daily vivarin - if you really feel you need this in order to get through the day, then I don't see why you would have to stop it COMPLETELY - taking Vivarin EVERY DAY might be a little risky - your body could build up a tolerance to it again, and you'll find yourself needing soda, tea or other methods of supplementation. That's another sign of addiction; when your original dose is no longer enough to do what it did when you first started dosing.
If you continued taking the

[hr]
, however, you wouldn't be "quitting" caffeine - you'd just be reducing your daily intake. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is also a WONDERFUL idea...b/c it works both ways; When you stop taking a drug, your tolerance goes away, and the drug is then as powerful or MORE powerful for you than it was before your addiction. Once you've gotten yourself off the supplemental doses you get from soda/tea/etc, you'll find that your vivarin are FAR more effective than they ever used to be. This is why I would suggest doing at least 8 days off ALL caffeine - even the

[hr]
. This will allow your system to completely detox and give you a fresh clean slate to start with.
In any event, I've talked far too much at this point
Let us know what you decide to do! :jumping:

You would be surprised how much energy you will regain once you stop taking/drinking caffine...when I cutback(sodas, coffee, etc) I was no longer tired all day so I didn't feel the need to "HAVE" caffine....my former screen name/ email was pepchlc= Pepsi-holic given to me by my friends who said they never saw me drink anything but Pepsi(btw have never had a cavity either)
anyway good luck w/ whtever you decide to do and stay stong and dont' give in to temptation "strong will" will survive...

Hhmm... Shu.... I've been around here for sixth months. Waaaaayyy before I even THOUGHT of detoxing from caffeine - so it may be an addiction (which I doubt, b/c it doesn't bear the smptoms of one), but it certainly isn't an addiction that REPLACED my caffeine problem.

I can't help it if I like things "intensely" when I like them at all
