I had a large pile of cash that I had to get rid of,:D JK
Nice selection of fish and Corals , the combos are endless, your a chemist,electrician,plumber, and pet owner,:)

Of course the COLOR of the fish.
Plus I think the fish are more active than fresh water fish.
A bit more money (bit?) but it is worth it in the long run.
Just do it !
One other thing. For some reason I always thought saltwater looked clearer than fresh water. Maybe the density of the water.
I personally would never waste my time (sorry) with fresh water.
Plus like Plum said, too much money on my hands!!!!

I agree with most of the above comments. The attraction for most usually involves the variety of colours in corals and fish. Each fish seems to have it's own distinct personality as well.

I didn't mean to get into this hobby I bought a dog then started going into pet stores that got me likeing freshwater fish then I had to have the best so I wanted to try saltwater and now I am a saltwater addict..

I got into salt water due to triggers and other aggressive saltwater fish. Like watching them swim and eat. The reef and FOWLR came after. Though I am at the limits now ! Can't have no more tanks :(

The fact that everytime i looked at a tank when i was a kid i was in complete awe- Every time i saw a reef tank i was so facinated and would spend over an hour looking at it- The fact that i knew that there is no way i could ever have anything like that- I thought you needed to be filthy rich and have special connections- The fact that it was difficult to do- now i say it is not but for a fish- its a lot of work. Pretty much everything about it color- movement- knowing that you have living animals from all over the world- So...... yep:)

So - I'm in college and this girl takes me to an LFS and we check out SWF - this is a hobby of hers apparently. Well I had a freshwater tank and boom - my first of three failed attempts @ SW during the college years. doing a tank on a small budget then moving it every year - not so much .....
My wife (not same girl - she was flaky (not my wife mind you - this other girl) and moved out of state - by the way if you are on this board - and you know who you are - I want my damn SHOES back and my Clapton tape!!) - where was I .....
Oh yeah - my wife did not want fish @ all when we first met. Well - she lived in Iowa and I lived in KC and so I set one up anyhow (hey I had all the pieces - right .... ). Bred some rainbow Gourami's and she thought thatwas pretty cool - then got a bigger tank and raised some African Chic.s - then we moved to iowa .... moved back to KC start with anall natural FW set-up - had two kids - and now I got both of them so into the hobby that my 2 year old checks salinity in the 5 gallon nano every night with me before she goes to bed .....
uhm .... would this be TMI??

initially, the vibrant colors and coral. Once I set up my first tank and failed miserably it was the challenge of suceeding. Thank god for all the animals I bought I learned relatively fast (thanks SWF.com).

I just wanted a clownfish!And,bam...15 years later I was at a friends house and knew it was time to do a reef tank after seeing his.And,now I have more clowns AND a reef!

Thanks Phil!! They are both really getting into it big time!! They even get excited to kill the lights and go in and check the tank with a red light.
The older one even took an LFS employee to task because they had 15 Yellow Tangs in a 20 gallon long ..... It went something like:
"Dad - they have too many of tose pretty yellow guys in one tank."
Shocked LFS guy looks at her and she looks up at the guy and says (I kid you not): "don't you know that they should be in at least a 55 gallon tank - and then only one - you could not mix them with those pretty blue guys (pointing to the hippo tang in the next tank)"
LFS Kid walked away and we had to find someone else to help us with our live rock ....

I would have to say I got into for the chics', or the fortune, and quite possibly the fame:D but then I learned that chics' think your a nerd, you spend a fortune, and the only fame you recieve is at the LFS, but that's good enough for me

I've always been facinated with the ocean. Now I have a small piece of tropical ocean. When my house is finally built, I will also have a small piece of sub-arctic ocean (in the form of a "tide pool").

Diving!! I love to scuba dive. Everytime I look at my fish tank, it makes me feel like I am diving again. Sometimes I even strap on an air tank and put on a mask and sit in front of the tank with my flippers on.:D : :D J/K

My reef tank is the closest I've ever been to the ocean. The sad part is that now I have the money to go see the ocean, but I don't want to leave my tank in someone elses hands:rolleyes: . I am however going to go against my better judgement and go on a cruise in october, and I can't wait.:)

It's the most fascinating, fulfilling 'hobby'. No matter how long you've been into it, there's always something else to learn.
Absolutely worth every bit of time, and every penny. :)
