Best way to learn, eh?
I only mentioned 6ml as being a good dose because it appearred to raise your levels just a little. Slow & consistant wins the race.
You'll find that as your corals grow or you add corals the demand for Carbonate & Calcium will also increase.

I know . . . I will probably regret it and go back to six UNLESS my new monti digita eats up that extra Ca!!!
I know I know . . . I probably should not have considering I only have 150w of VHO . . . . but I am growing pocillopora and hydnophora pretty well in the middle of the tank, so I figure that the monti has a chance at the top. It was brown to begin with so i am not too worried about the color. just want to see if it will grow.

i attached the frag with a superglue gel. will the coral grow a base over the glue and onto the rock?

Yep. That's the first thing it will do. then after spreading a bit it will suddenly send up a bunch of shoots from the base and create a rather instant colony.
This is only for M.digitata under VHO. It behaves differently under MH.

Cool . . . I am going to try and document the growth pattern of it and basically track it begining tomorrow. I plan on keeping a photo journal of its progress. well . . . at least try anyway. We'll see how long it actually lasts though.
Thanks for the info.

ok, here is an update on this thread . . . I am still trying to dial in the dosage on the B-Ionic.
I have been dosing 7ml since last week, actually more like two weeks.
Here are today's numbers (which have me confused a little BTW)
pH - 8.2
Alk 3.15 meq/L
Ca 400 ppm
Any thoughts? Otherwise I am going for 8 ml.

007 thanks for the updates.
I'm still awaiting my b-ionic from cheapcorals dot com (4 weeks) and think this is very helpful.
What value in Calc are you trying to reach? 400 is good! Seawater is at 420. Most Reef keepers like 450 just to be a little on the high side for consumption.
Thanks for doing the testing.

I'd really like to actually shoot for an alk of 3.5 meq/L . . . at this level i think that Ca will fall in line around 440 or so . . . thats really what I am shooting for and so far I have not been able to reach it.

yeah, now that I am at least in the range with this stuff, I give it at least a week of dosing at a certain levelt before adjustments are made.
Thanks for the help . . .

Just a thought,
To cut down on the time,You should know what your tank average was/is for a couple weeks prior. Then boost (gradually) to the numbers you want to maintain by turbo calcium and kh hardness(reef builder carbonate or the like).Magnesium Then...........and only then......This will solve the geussing problem.
Watch how much the tank uses (values will drop off) over a set time interval like three days(meanig YOU DONT ADD anything just watch) , then re test (make sure your right ,do it twice if need be) divide by three and that is your target amount
you need to maintain every day(granted as things grow out the values will change).
NOW....... you can adjust amounts through keeping notes as you will have valid info to base usage amounts on...This is where rereading the bottle instruction will make sense....Do what it says for the amounts you need......
Watch and maintain records on them all(dont' forget to hold Mag. at 1325 or so or its all out the window).
This will give you enough to get a very close first time dose then dial it in over time.....
Keep posting if you need to hear it a different way till someone makes it click for you...
Hope this
helps a little / ScottbytheSea

wow i still have so much more to learn, was this whole thing writin in a different language...... but anyway i use
b-ionic and i have been for about 5 months. its only a 30 gal tank and i put about 1 dram in everyother day. (sometimes i miss a day hear and there) but anyway what testkits do i need. after reading all this i feel like i should just dump the two bottles right down the drain. im sure once i get the testkit there will be 1000 more ? but untill then whats a good one to get?

Slappy, A good test kit IMO is a salifert. Most people here agree on this one.
And the B-ionic is a good product as well. I am just getting used to it as I have used the Seachem products for a couple years. hence the level adjustments etc.
Scottbythesea,
Thanks for the advise, but I am way ahead of ya. Been at this for quite some time now. Thanks though! :D
