just cause i got a little worried, i emailed sids.org about the belly sleeping:
Once she begins flipping there is really nothing that you can do to safely to
keep her on her back. Just make sure the bed is completely bare (no cover,
bumper pads, pillows, toys, positioners
, etc.). And keep her crib in your room.

I watched a show on sids on one of those learning channels. They said there are 2 factors here.
Recycled carbon dioxide, ie pillow, blanket, cat, that causes suffocation is one.
But there is a small percentage of children whos brain does not have the mechanism that tells them to pull back from the carbon dioxide area and get fresh air.
It said that every child autopsied that died of sids, was missing that little portion of their brain.
Although it is incredibly rare, if you've ever seen your child pull her face out of a "uncomfortable" type oxygen zone, then you can rest easier.
Same applies to the ones who exhale and simply do not inhale again.
Lemme see if I can find it. It was years ago that I saw that show.

Check out paragraph number 6.
Read it all, but that one is pretty impressive, IMO.

Glad to know I'm not loosing my memory.

The brainstem abnormality may pose a greater risk when a baby sleeps on his or her tummy or has his or her face buried in a blanket. Paterson says a normal baby will get a signal from the brain to wake up and breathe when they're not getting enough oxygen. But a baby with the serotonin defect either doesn't get that signal or can't wake up — and is at risk of suffocating, he says.
another one...

If she is ready then you will know. I just put some on my sons lip. When he got the taste in his mouth he looked surprised, then opened his mouth.

just put a little on her lips and she should lick it and she will either like it and open for a bite or hate it clasp her mouth very shut.
is she on cereals or are you wanting to try baby food?

touch the tip of the spoon to her bottom lip so a little of the food gets on her lip
let me clarify: i didnt leave my kids screaming in a room all night , but once they got to where they knew crying would get them attention (which is different for every kid) i quit running in there to pick them up unless i heard the 'i need something cry'
...glad to hear you had a better night

another trick if she uses a pacifier is to dip it in the cereal and then put it in her mouth. same with a bottle.

when i was at the age of "no more crying at night, put yourself to bed" phase, my parents went tough love by playing rock music rather loudly in another room. It didnt put me to sleep, but it would stop me from crying. they said it worked very well.

Haha! The solid foods thing is funny.
I would go through the motion as if I were wiping the spoon off on her upper gum.
About 1/3 of a (baby) spoonful.
