I'm sorry Flower on your loss of your fish.
First of all, I'm glad that you and your family is ok that's most important.
Hang in there, your doing all you can for your fish and your horses hopefully when the generator gets there, everyone will recover back...

Flower, I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through. Hang in there. Hopefully, the generator comes and you can get some of your equipment back online.

Hello everyone....THE HORSES...EVERY ONE OF THEM, made it....

Thank you for the well wishes and prayers...
Power is on, and I just got the pumps running on the tanks....things look pretty rough and I lost the serpent stars just before the power kicked on, the lawnmower Blenny was looking pretty rough, and I don't think he would have made it another day. the generator got here and as we were umpacking it from the box the power came on. Com Ed said not until 9:00pm Saturday for power. So I'm delighted they were early. I will be ready if ever there is a next time. Huge trees were down and the wind broke a telephone pole in half, it also took out a huge willow tree and lightening struck a big tree across my street and split it in half. The storm lasted 10 minutes and took out power for days in, Gurnee, Grayslake, Round Lake, Fox Lake and my town Lindenhurst. I haven't been able to watch the news so I don't know how bad it was elsewhere.
There were no generators to even buy for a 100 miles, I had to order one online. Home Depot said they were getting some in but the waiting list was huge and they were calling people as they became available...going by the list. Menards only had the ones for $1000.00 left..Lowes was out. I couldn't even find batteries to buy for the flash lights, the shelves were empty. What a nightmare. I have a well so we didn't even have water to flush the toilet. I have been hauling in 5g jugs from the Wal-Mart in the next town over, we had to go there because our Wal-Mart had no power. I flushed my toilet with old tank water after I did my water changes trying to keep the tanks going. I could have gone to my brothers house but then the tanks would be dead for sure.
I broke the legs on the lights that go to the SH tank so I'm off to see if I can find some replacements. I'm so tired.

Yeah!!!!! You did a good job! Glad you and your mom are okay. I'm sure you will be doing water changes for a while but try to get some rest.
Good lesson for all of us.........we would be out of luck also. We have some small battery pumps, but they would only get us so far.

Well Flower...sorry for what yu lost, BUT glad all the horses made it
after the ice storm in 2000, we bought a generator, and I have 2 inverters and always keep LOTS of batteries and propane for the camping lantern
I Did not have SW tanks then....only the FW, and I was able to run the airlines off the inverters back then.....
SAD what has to happen before we learn to stock certain things ... huh..

I now seem to have coral issues, a kenya tree...I moved it a little and it just sent gunk all over...the tank is cloudy now, it has been a few hours now and it isn't clearing up. The horses seem fine, should I chance another water change or just leave the tank alone? I don't want to stress them but I don't want to poison them either. I have a canister filter in the garage...I could run that with some carbon and that white cotton stuff. That's all I have for media on hand tonight.
I also can't seem to locate the LM blenny in the 90g. It was breathing pretty heavy when the lights came on and I hoped he would be okay, now it's MIA. Should I go tearing up the rock to find him? With the serpent stars gone I'm not so confident in my CUC to take care of the blenny, he's about 6 inches long...I didn't know LMBs got that big. He was never a shy fish and was always out and about.

IDK if Iwould mess with stuff too much.....BUT....running a little extra filtration could never hurt....
run the carbon, and wait till daylight and see how things look after that

Thanks for the input...I put some carbon in a stocking and LOL...hung it in the sump where water flows, if the tank looks nasty tomorrow I will dig out the canister. I'm surprised that after that long without light the macros are still alive.

Final update:
Every seahorse is feeding and the males are back to making faces at each other and wooing the female....
The tank is clear, the surviving coral looks rough.... but it looks like only the one kenya bit the dust, the green one from SWF that, LOL..looked purple is gone. Oh and by the way...I never saw the other posts, I read them last night. Thanks you all for the good advice, I did indeed add ice bags to the SH tank to keep it cool...it was 97 that first day, the tank never got warmer than 78. You have no idea how much I went through to keep my tanks alive. At one point when my tangs went belly up I just broke down and cried, my mother was holding me telling me how sorry she felt for me. Over a dead fish, I felt so silly but I couldn't help it.
This morning I found the LMB in the 90g so all is happy. I am going to use the gift certificate BTLDreef gave to me, and replace my Lemonpeel Angel fish. I will not be replacing the tangs. After the angel I think I will add one more fish, I don't know what yet. I can't believe the clowns, they are the only ones in the entire 90g except the blenny and they hang out BEHIND a rock in a corner where they remain as unseen as before..
So ends the saga of 4 days of no power, may I NEVER repeat such an experience again. Now that it's all over you should see my emergancy equipment. I almost got rid of those 5g jugs after I got my RO unit...not now, those babies have a home forever, they saved my butt. I can't hardly walk, my knees are gone, I'm back to using the cane to walk this morning.
Oh and about that generator...LOL, it is not on wheels..it weighs 98 pounds (it says that on the box), I was expecting it to be hard to move but I guess lifting 5g jugs for 4 days built some muscles because I lifted it up and told my mom it wasn't that heavy, like it was nothing and I moved it, which is why my knees gave out. Now that it's all over..my shoulders hurt too.
