Baghdad renewed?

This is good news. I like good news.
"Karada Street is one of the main drags in Baghdad, and visitors find it full of fruit stands and modern supermarkets — flat screen TVs sold upstairs, Red Bulls sold downstairs — an area teeming with activity."
"The dark days of the insurgency seem past, the curfews forgotten, as Baghdad returns to normal life thanks to the surge of troops and the presence of the Iraqi Army and Police throughout the city."

Great news and I always love feel good stories, BUT all it takes is one carefully placed car bomb and everything goes down the toilet so so fast. Still so fragile, like walking on egg shells.

gee. its a shame you would never hear or see this on the main stream news. (hate to go this way, but its walking and quacking).
maybe if journalism would stop being so biased and just report and let us decide, we'd be able to make better decisions.
the news is so doom and gloom.
maybe goods news more often would really change the morale around this country.

I'm going to write some letters to news agencies. Prolly won't do any good, but I'll write them anyway. I haven't written letters in a while. The last ones were to my elected officials over border control.

Give us dirty laundry!"

Just wait... 3 minutes after Senator Obama becomes President you'll start reading about how great Iraq is, how badly beaten Al Qaeda is, and how the economy isn't as bad as we thought... just wait.

Just out of curiosity, who would watch the news if the topic of the night was "Iraqi man sits down and drinks a Red Bull"... news at 11?

Then it's time to bring our folks out. We are done... Is this the VICTORY everyone was talking about we needed before a pullout?

Personally going by the old addage, no news is good news. I think so.
imo I think that Iraq will soon be back in the forefront of the news, as an obama success. They'll point to his "secret" negotiations he did while he was in iraq. As the turning point. And Obama will be crowned by his media as the person who brought victory in iraq.

We are still training Iraqis and are there for backup. In one newscast I watched, an Iraqi civilian said he wanted the US soldiers to stay because they made him feel more secure...or something to that effect. I'll see if I can dig it up. I'm definitely not opposed to pulling out. I would just like for us to stay long enough to keep the country from coming unraveled when we do leave. Iran would invade Iraq in a heartbeat if they felt we left Iraq vulnerable.

Forget Iran, Moscow will invade Iraq as soon as soon as we leave...

I was part of the surge. I saw that it DID work. It sucked that all our tours got extended to 15 months. I have a crippled wife (she was crippled a year ago by a German Dr.), 5 children and I'm already on alert for my next deployment which will come sooner than expected. I feel that we could be near the point where everyone is going to forget about Iraq, because it looks as all the assets are going to be shifted to Afghanistan. Same worn out Soldiers different time-zone!

Why do you say this Journeyman? Inquisitive minds need to know what you are seeing and hearing that cause you to make this statement.
