I think my lights might be too close to my tank. I have a 55 gallon tank that is open top. The tank is about 20" deep from the top of the tank to the top of the sand bed. My light is a Coralife Aqualight. It is 280 Watts. (1x150 MH 10,000k) (2x65 Watts PC Actinics)
My lights a hung from the ceiling and sit 3" above the water. They have been mounted there for about 2 years. (New bulbs of corse)
I never had that many corals in this tank before, so I never made sure I had the correct hight. Now that I'm adding corals, I want to make sure I set it up correctly.
For the most part, I'm not happy with some of the shaded areas in the tank, I have a feeling I can make more of the tank brighter if I set the hight of the lights further from the water.
I'm planning on keeping mostly Zoas, GSP, Shrooms, Monti, etc.
Thanks.

Is there a benefit to having the lights closer or are they better further away? Were only talking about 4 to 8 inches of difference. Is it going to change things that much?

Heat issues I guess...too close=too hot
