Best Way

What is the best way to get rid of any best on new corals. I know in a perfect world I would have a qt tank but I don't. Should I fresh water dip them? My friend told me he gives them an iodine dip, but also warned of how easy it was to kill the corals with the wrong mixture. Anyone out there been thru this? n if so what did you do?

I want to buy corals from the fish store, but I don't want zoo eating nudibranches, spider/gorilla crabs or any other hitchhiker that will kill the corals I already have. My question is what is the best way without a qt tank to get rid of these problems? Freshwater dip/ Iodine dip?

Dip should be simple. Iodine is what most people do. Of course I just get lazy half the time and float the corals for a while then put in the DT. I don't recommend it, but as to not be a hypocrite, I'll tell you that when adding hardy corals from a reputable store...I don't dip

I wish I had a reputable store around me, but all the ones I know are shady, I've lost a lot of money listening to their "advice". All the corals I have right now are from my friend who aquacultures them. I want to branch out and get some different stuff. Is an Iodine dip just the coral and Iodine or should I put water in with it too?

Also read the bottle....use very little iodine

Cool, cool, is that the same for all corals or just zoa's? The bottle just tells me about daily dosing not dipping corals.

You might not have the right stuff then. What exactly is it that you have?

.
+1 No kidding!!!

I'm really new to corals and have only done a dip once but what I did was bought something called Tincture of Iodine at the drug store. It was in a small eye dropper bottle. From what I read online you add around 20 drops to 1 liter of tank water and just place the coral into this solution for 20 mins. I did this with an orange montipora digi and it is doing very well in my tank. It has lots of new growth. I think a lot of people use Seachem Reef Dip or Lugol's also.

I don't know, I think I would want something that says safe "for dips" specifically like Lugols, or a specific type of reef dip..
