Don't let my husband see this thread. If I'm not careful we'll end up with a tank like that and no couch! As that would be the only way we'd have room.

Well - its here......getting it onto the house is gonna be tougher than planned, as it is much bigger than the "4sale" pics I posted....I didn't get to see it till I showed up with cash & a trailer in Dallas, 2hrs away.........I knew the dimensions, prior - but they seem smaller when u only vision them...
I ALMOST CHICKENED OUT WHEN I SAW IT!!!!
But 6+me loaded it up with the help of hydraulic lifts....It's ALOT bigger than I thought.....and the bottom is 1" thick plate glass, with a 1/4" ABS plates on both sides.....the sides are 3/4" thick, so the thing is heavier than planned too.....probably 1200#.....the stand is very well built and extremely sturdy, but it also weighs 500+......
It's one of the last BIG tanks "Oceanic" made before they went downhill, and is 3 years old....New I think it was about $7500 for the tank/solid oak stand/and oak top trims......I paid $1650.
The truck is a full size F150 with the long 6 foot bed...Tomorrow will plan how n the heck were gonna get it into the backyard, so I can remove BOTH paynes of the sliding glass door, for a shceduled Sunday move into the house...Once in - I'll feel alot better!!! lol
O - and it's BIG!

How does the saying go "everything is bigger in Texas" I had to show my son and he said he could swim in it. Good luck with getting it in your house, can't wait to see it.

I'm 6'3" and I could swim in it! ! ! it's bigger than some hottubs!
I've been looking for a 200 -300g to upgrade the tangs into - but used w/stand, they run easy an $1000, unless it's kinda raggy/old/leaking/homeade stand/etc. - so I saw the capacity of this thing, read the dimensions and kinda jumpped at it.....Now that I got it, the pucker factor went thru the roof....I'll feel better when It's in the house&on its stand and no one gets hurt.
The process of getting each piece into the back yard is gonna be the same, but it's the "lift" that worries me......I cant find a mini scissor lift locally like the one we used in Dallas to get the tank into the house, and it's more than heavy enough to remove someones finger(s) if they get caught under the tank and picnched. The lift we used in Dallas was rated to almost 1 ton, but no local rental places have one, and harbor freight only sells one rated for 500#....But am planning & prepping things today for the move-in tomorrow - but the lift just may require bodies and it's gonna take 8+ to do it.

WOW! What a deal!! I told my BF if I found a deal like that I would just have to buy it!! The pic of it in your truck is great! I'm looking at 200-300 gallon tanks for when we have a bigger house....I would die if I found that one!! Are you going to do a canopy on top? Have you decided on the lighting?

I plan on doing my upgrade this spring to a 850/1000 gallon. I started purchasing some of the equipment (protein skimmer, chiller and what not) I got a price on the tank and it was no where near $1650, it was $8000+ and thats just for the glass. You give me hope on finding a better deal LOL Please keep us posted on the good and the bad of setting up such a large tank. I look forward to following this thread

This is gonna be exciting. I wish I had the money to do a huge display tank. Are you putting this on a second floor or a basement floor? Or is this a ground level floor? Just curious.

lol,you can tell cam is from up north.no basements down here.concrete slabs.sucks not having a basement down here but you dont have to worry about that setup going through the floor.

It's a ground level install - I'd never attempt to do anything this big higher than slab level! I dunno how they do it, i guess they are more dedicated. I'd been watching craigslist for a while, and some fish store in dallas closed up - and a livestock wholsaler bought the entire unit when it was up&runnin, and parted everything out....I was lucky to get the tank! It has a stock 10" wide upper canopy, but if i put it on, it'll be later on...
From my 3 running mains, 2 will be broken down first and all liverock/livestock/substrate will go into the biggun - over time....the 3rd contatins my LPS/SPS and it will be months before this thing is stable enough to put them over. I currently only have maybe 175# liverock & 175 pounds substrate (silver shores aragonite & crushed coral) that be xferred from the 2 mains into the 475g.. I will likely move as much liverock from the 3rd main as I can - once the fish are out of it. I will need to buy another 150-200 pounds of LR or base in really big chunks, and I can cure it off/Qtine it in one of the empty mains....The other empty main is gonna be my sump (100g), and am buying a used 55 or 75 to be the refugium.. Lighting will be 5ea 250w MH untis (for starters as it will be a FOWLR initially) with more later on, probably 10 total....Or if they seem dim at the bottom, i'll upgrade to 400watt units, as I sell off the 250's...shooting for 2500 - 3000 watts light at first, and might almost double that later on....I own 250watt units now, and need to use them...this build is on a budget..........lol
Have ordered:
175 pounds Silver Shores aragonite substrate.
140 pounds crushed coral.
80 pounds livesand.
1200 gallons of salt mix (reef crystals)
Soon to order - (this week/next):
more liverock
Euro Reef 12-3 skimmer
a large return pump - still planning out volume needs.
