I am SO fallowing along.
This is AWESOME.
What lighting are you doing for this?
2000W of MH?
I have 6ea 250w MH units running now over 3 mains - all 20k XM bulbs.....4 of them will be used over the 475 first (as a FOWLR tank), as the other 2 are used in my 100 sps/lps tank. When the corals and remainder of life/rock/substrate in that tank can come over to the biggun (couple months away), those 2 MH units can come over too....But by then, i'll know how a 250w does in a 3' deep tank....If it looks like it wont be nuff, I'll sell off all the 250's and replace with 6ea r 8ea 400w units - OR keep running the 250w and supplement the tank with 2 or 3 more 400w units....will have to see how it looks under 1000w (4ea) of 250w units first, and that will tell me right quick if the 250's I got will even be useable or if i'll be able to just add on 1200w more in 400w units.....it'll be a work in progress....but I think I eventually will have 6ea 250w and 3ea 400w running - that'll give almost 6 watts/gallon....
Just got back from Lowes, and $230 later in PVC fittings & .220" thick acrylic sheets we own...I have the recirculation system & sump/fuge plumbing parts now & acrylic for the sump.....Sadly, it is time to research a large recirculation pump and large sump/fuge return pump and spend several hundred more....
May be taking donations soon! ! ! lol

opened a can of worms did ya?
the guy i buy my fish from helped someone set up a 650 gallon.i think hes up $20,000 so far.like 500 lbs rock and hundreds of pounds of sand.crazy because its their first saltwater tank.the tank was custom made to fit a corner of a room with a 45 degree wall in the corner.
what store went out of business in dallas?

I dont quite know - the original add for the tank in craigslist was while it was complete&running a month ago, for 6k...I ignored that, and found it listed (same tank-but empty) 2weeks later for 2grand....It got "bumped" a week later for 1850obo....
All I know from the orig 6k add, is it was "uptown" as stated in the add - so maybe that fish place on Greenville ave close to downtown??? I got the tank from the guys that broke it down (bought it whole) and parted it all out.

Very nice
Glad it's glass because it will be very difficult to clean if it's acrylic
Do you have stock list yet?

I run Reeflo dart for return and couple of Tunze 6205 , 6215 wavebox and 6055 for circulation.
Is the glass starfire?

Update - (small 1)
Yikes....Sunday was a long one - 19 hr day of moving things, but the STAND is in the house!
Long story short, got a 4' x4' 1000# capacity yard type flattop trailer from Harbor Freight & a spiffy trailer dolly and assembled those. Back to home depot for a plywood deck for it, then drilled & installed it on the trailer. . . Then I used a floor jack, 2 jackstands, and 2 rachet straps and managed to get the stand on the trailer by myself over 2+ hours....Then took down the chainlink fence, and wheeled it into the backyard and onto the back porch. Removed the sliding glass doors, and then 2 friends came over and we unloaded it into the house and got it close to where it is pictured below......(which is it's final home)
There WAS
a 100g main sitting against the short wall/glass doors - and it was after we got the stand inside, that I decided for sure it was gonna have to move now (correction: be moved) so that process started about 6pm last night. De stocked it/drained it/emptied it/moved it and got it up&running again by 2am this morn...only 2 more hours of getting the MH fixtures off the ceiling where it was - to where is now, alomst in the kitchen! ! The blue and powder blue tangs are very suspicious of me right now - as I rarely move/mess with them other than feeding. They just don't trust me at the moment ! ! lol

Still trying to find a mini scissor lift like we used in Dallas to load the tank into the truck. No one in town rents one, and harbor freight has a nice one with a 1000 lb rating, but they can't keep them on the shelves......So have a raincheck on one, and plan to meet their next delivery truck to get one.....Still hoping to have the tank ON the stand this week, somehow........Othen than that, been spending money quick getting things comming for it...but it's fun.
Will post again when she's on the stand! (your positive thoughts needed!)

All that just for the stand... Wow! And moving a100 gallon tank isn't easy, nice work!
I did notice your right show is a little more worn than the left.

I used to have eyes that sharp! ! lol
A nice update, but a major problem has shown up...........crap
the tank is currently in the house, next to the stand......cannot get any type of lift - but I can do it by stacking pallets under each end, and jacking each end up by ~6" at a time and inserting another pallet.....no big deal...I;ve jacked 30 ton corporate jets for 20 years by my self......We got the tank OUT of the red pickup truck and onto the mini trailer with very little effort, using some shade tree mechanic techniques:

BUT - At this time - the stand it TOO TALL (42" from floor to counter top).....the tank is 37" external from base to top frame...SO if the tank were on the stand - it'd be 79" talll, leaving only 17" from the top of tank to celing.........the celing in the house is 96" (8ft) . . now add 6+ MH light fixtures and they consume almost 10" hang down to bottom of glass ....so to get ME up to almost waist high outside the tank (on step ladder), bend over in the tank to reach anything in the center/middle/bottom, I'm gonna have to have a snorkle and goggles ! ! ! - with very hot MH fixture glass panes only 9" from the top water level.....NO GO!
So I gotta push the tank back outside and store in the backyard for a couple days.......Load the stand back on furniture dollys and get back outside under the back porch....and cut 8" off the base......basically cut the entire base right the heck off....then disassemble the base in order to re-attach it to the rest of the structure as was before..That'll give me a post
cut height of 71" with tank on stand. . that = 25" from top of tank to celing,.....and lots of room to mount MH fixtures, and still have 12" water clearance & more room to get in to it to reach the bottom center...Have subtracted the planned 8" cut from the internal vertical height access of the cabinet/stand and that leaves a 20" vertical access. .. (thru doors/structure). . ...with a stock 42" wide center open span (between vertical 2x4 supports), and (hopefully) room to insert & flip 90degrees a 75g sump- - - I should be able to get my planned 75g (18x21x49) sump into the cabinet....(tests comming later today/2morrow)....but the sump will have to go in the stand on it's side, then roll vertical once inside.....the refugium is likely gonna be a 55g, which will be no problem getting inside the stand....planned sump capacity is ~ 1/2 full when running, or 10" - fuge running the same 1/2 full..(not interconnected - but seperate sump & fuge)
This planned reduction in stand height kills the planned Euro Reef 12-2 skimmer - as it has a fixed height of 30" and to get the skimmer cup off, it needs a couple more inches, and I only will be left with 30" total height inside stand - rats again......Now planning a shorter skimmer - possibly bubble magus BM200....Not the best skimmer - but for a total volume of < 500 gallons - and a lightly stocked reef tank with ozone (clearwater CS1400) - it should do OK (ozone body will sit external, behind stand, as it is 32" tall). . . Closed loop recirculation pump looking like Sequence 4300 - quiet/low heat xfer/low wattage and only a 5.5' head should produce 3800+ gph on recirculation......sump is gravity input from overflow box (1), and looking at pumps around 1000-1200gph for that return...Refugium will be a seperate loop - with a fuge capacity of ~55 tank, and 1/2 full.....Much slower gravity feed, and return only about 50% to 100%tank capacity/hr.....I think I already have a submersible pump that'll do that return..
Have all new bottom bulkhead fittings comming, 5each 1.5" and 2each 1" - and hope to have the tank ON the stand, bottom holes sealed/capped - by thursday or friday - so I can begin filling with tap water and leak checking....Plan to have it 95% full over 2 days, ensuring the overflow is sealed, then fill to 100% and let sit for several days to ensure no leaks crop up later. Big tanks can make a big mess! - and who wants to clean up 475gallons of saltwater..this thing holds 15 gallons per vertical inch.
Another long day, this one pushing 24 hours, as I was up at 0600 this morn - and it's 5 min to 6am now.
so close - but taking it out now & cutting the stand is SOOO much easier than breaking it down later, and loss of 450+ gallons saltwater:

At least you caught the problem before the tank was in the air.
Leak testing inside the house is still risky, I did it and survived but mine was only 120 gallons, I'll have my fingers crossed for ya!
Your tank is 3 foot deep, your going to need to scuba no matter how far off the ground it is, or you need to post a pic of your 3 foot lomg arms? haha

my friend who used to build acrylic tanks resilicone my 250.i put it in the driveway for 3 days to water test it.then i put it on the stand with water rock and sand.two days later it sprung a pin hole leak at the bottom front.the water was a tiny thin stream shooting 3 foot out of the tank.so i had to empty and re silicone it again.
seems to me you have the hard part done ,you have the tank next to the stand.what i did by myself with my 250 was get one end of the tank on the side of the stand and the other on the floor.
then i just picked up the bottom end and slid it on the stand.i would think 3 guys could do this with yours .one holding the stand so it dont slide and the other two lifting and sliding.

Got salt? I guess when you order 8 200g boxes of it - you get a free pallet!
Am gonna cut the stand SUPER careful - measure 4 times cut once!
Sadly, it takes 4 to lift ONE side of the tank - 1"thick glass bottom & probably 5/8 or 3/4 sides.......it's heavy

I have one - but it'll have to be used with a sling I'd have to build. Got new saw blades for a cut 2morrow. I gonna go to bed early 2nite - been putting in too much time on this thing and am beat!

Well - so far so good - and a heck of a lot of progress!
Strarted coffee @ 0630 yesterday morn and kinda got a game plan for cutting the stand down.....By 0800 was making things shorter.....took ALL day to cut the stand down & re-assemble with wood screws&glue. Got the stand & tank back into the house around 7pm....thought about going to bed - but had some energy, so with the tank on the mini trailer, next to the stand - started building a tower of pallets from the floor up on the left & right sides of the tank...within a few hours - I had a level platform on which to begin jacking & raising the tank while inserting 1 pallet at a time on each side. I made a jacking tool of a 4' 4x4 to place under the tank, with 1" short boards tacked to each end to lift the tank from the bottom&sides uniformally....Before long, I had it close to stand level, and I had the tank strapped to the stand to stabilize it. On the final lift, a 4wheel furniture dolly was placed upsidedown on the pallet stack on each side so the wheels would allow the tank to roll off the pallets and onto the stand. Worked like a charm, and the tank rolled right onto the stand. Some major pushing and it was centered.....It's now 6am and time for more coffee and waterchanges on all 3 other mains......and do some major clean up!
That was complete by 9am, and the cafine kicked in well, so it was time to install bulkhead fittings and seal the tank to begin leak a check! That is still in work, and tank is almost 2/3 full of tap water for leak ck. Top of tank now stands 71" from floor. (Much better than 79"!!!) The only leaks so far are the threadded caps on the bulkhead fittings - didn't use enough teflon tape, but it's a very slow drip (ergo the 3 buckets)......NOT planning to hold very much in them! ! l;ol
Bedtime is not far off!
