I have recently got a beautiful black clownfish. I have had him since sunday and he doesn't seem to be eating very much. i have feed him flake food, mysis shrimp, spectrum thera a pellets and reef plankton. I have only seen him eat just a little since I got him and i believe he isn't eating enough. I also have added garlic extreme to the last two feedings and still he is not eating much. Any suggestions?

how big is this clown fish and the tank hes in...put them in a small tank and they get scared and will not eat...most fishies that you buy at the pet store you should ask to see them eat...they dont mind feeding them if it gets them a sell, and it gives you assurance that they was already eating at the store and if he was eating at the store then give him some time as long as hes in atleast a 30 gallon tank i say he will be fine in a few days...in the ocean they dont get alot to eat

I think most of that advice is inaccurate, with the exception of having the LFS feed the fish before you buy it
If clownfish didn't eat because they're scared because they're in a tank that's "too small," then they wouldn't eat at the fish store. Also, not sure what makes you think they don't get a lot to eat in the ocean

To the Original Poster, your clownfish may just not be very hungry, or it may just be getting used to its surroundings. Keep an eye on its feeding habits... At least it's eating something
, which is always good.
By the way, aren't the black clowns just the cutest things?
I have a pair of them that I simply adore!

If it's a wild caught Clownfish I wouldn't expect it to eat anything the first week you have it. They are the most territorial fish I know of and they become very disoriented every time they are moved to a new home.
I wouldn't even attempt to feed one the first week I have it unless it was captive bred.
