Blue Sand

I've checked out a lot of the pictures that people post on here. One thing that I've noticed is that virtually nobody goes with the dyed sand. Is there a reason for this? Is the dyed sand unhealthy for some reason? Or is it just because its tacky?
I've had blue sand in my setup for 2 years. Everyone seems to be healthy. My water parameters stay good. If its a health risk I'll take it out... otherwise I'm okay with being tacky.

Okay, I'll try to get a photo tonight that I can post it up. Its nothing unusual... just sand dyed blue. They also make red, green and black.

the blue sand looks ok but it looks tacky in that tank because all of those fake corals and fake plants makes it look so ugly it scary :scared:

I've got black sand in my tank right now. I do like the look of it, however I am going to be switching over to live sand soon so its gonna have to go.

Yea, I like it, not something you see everyday, nice change for a saltwater tank.
To me FOWLR tanks get boring (been there done that), I do not mind the fake corals or blue sand of course my tank is BB. It is a matter of taste in this hobby, But that is what is so great about this hobby, choices......
My nano is changing to a seagrass tank, my 300g is changing to look like a pier underwater with poles a blue mirrored back ground, glass bottles and maybe a tire, who knows but it should than look natural.....

You may wanna reconsider putting an actual tire in the tank, they can release some pretty serious petroleum compounds into the water.
Tell me more about that 10g seagrass! I am setting up an experminetal one thsi summer, but it will be a 20g long.

Interesting.. The blue sand is kinda cool.. but I dont think I'd want it in my tank... maybe in a little nano FOWLR.. but not in a reef tank :-D
