I would like to know if anyone has any expierence with these lovely stingrays in the home reefs?? Would they make a mess of the tank? Nip at corals? those kind of questions. I am aware that they may eat the invertabrates, but am willing to take a chance. I have a 125 gallon which is 6 feet long, and would like to know if it that would be enough room. Thanks everyone!

a 125 will get small quick for any stingray,, they do knock alot fo corals over since they freely swim everywhere,, you need alot of open swimmign area for a ray with not that much live rock, they also need a large open area( or a few) to bury themseleves. If you have very fine sand yeas theydo make amess of everythign but too course is not good for them either..
ALSO the blue dot, although beutiful, has an extremely poor survival rate int he home aquarium , only lasting about 4-6 months MAX. IMO a species better left in the ocean since noone can keep them alive for long! this is because theyw ont eat or if theyd o start eating they will stop eventually. as far as inverts my two cali rays leave everythign alone
but their is a difference.. the bluespotted stingray is very hardy and does great in aquariums but needs a least a 300 gallon tank,,
whereas the bluespot ribbontail ray( which is always found in the aquarium trade) as stated above is a poor choice!
you can tell the difference int he two rather easily if you just look at pictures of both of them
hope i helped!

I appreciate the help. I was really fixated on a sting ray but being that I have a 125 I can wait till I upgrade to think about it, because I saw on other websites stating that they would do fine in a 75 gallons and up and thought I had room. But none the less I probably saved a stingray by not purchasing one right now. Thanks

One of the Other Forums (not sure which) has a thread of about 30 pages about a tank with a BS ray in it the Tank is 1700 gal (yes 1700! ) some were saying that was to small for a BS Ray !!! They need a Loong run of clear space to swim, All his rocks were Secured, but it would still knock things over once in awhile. Look around for the 1700 gal Stingray Tank

that tank is one of the best privately owned tanks I have ever seen, but accorging to that guy he gave the sting ray up for adoption. I guess 1700 is still not good enough. Oh well I guess Ill stick to my 4 tangs in a 125 gallons *sirens* do i hear the Tang police? lol

I did not know that he gave up the Ray :( It is an amazing tank! If he gave up his ray, then a 300 gal tank would be a horrabe place for a ray Especially since I've seen BS rays while diving w/ 2-3' Spans. Not a tank sized fish!
