Blue throat trigger.

This is my blue throat trigger I purchased from SWF. It is a male as you can see. Very shy and as of today 5 days after I received him he is twitching. Today he started to eat vigorously. Time will tell I would hate to lose him.

Yes my friend eating is always a good sign. But worms are a concern with the twitching. I will closely monitor his weight

It's a nice looking one. Hopefully it works out for ya. Twitching and voracious eating are definitely something to keep an eye on. Especially if it starts loosing weight but I'm sure you know that already.

They say 30% of wild caught fish typically have parasites already. Then grouping them together in holding tanks just spreads it to the others.

One more reason why I'm skeptical about online orders not knowing the facility or their practices they get shipped from.

And no quarantines, Joe? Shame shame lol.

Triggers are big eaters so that's normal, the twitching tho is concerning. I was thinking the same thing about qt quills, but haven't we all done it? Lol

Of corse. Just had to give Joe a hard time lol.

Not that I advocate it but I don't tend to quarantine much anymore either.

I've had and have witnessed far to many instances of trying to do the right thing and something bad still squeaks by.

But in my own defense I've grown far more choosy when purchasing live stock these day. I don't care how pretty or hard to come by it is, if it doesn't look to be in excellent condition when I see it then I just don't buy it.

Update I really like this fish, it’ only the second livestock I have named. My mantis shrimp was Lola and this guy is Shakes. He is very competitive at feeding time. Gets his share. Stays mostly around his chosen live rock shelter. Does go exploring the tank from time to time. Strange observation, at night with only the moon lights on he very rarely shakes.

I’m thinking the shaking may be stress induced. At night with just the moon lights there is a lot less external stimulus going on.

Trigger update. Well first off Shakes is still alive and eating. I am starting to think the Shaking may in fact be generated from his tail. He hovers over his rock sanctuary; this shaking may be his way of staying stationary. While I don’t recommend dosing a DT in many cases. I do dose with Chemiclean for cyano. I have also dosed my DT this week with PraziPro just in case. FWTW these two products I have found to be extremely safe and effective

Do you think it could be some type of display behavior or does he do it even when other fish aren't around?

I’m pretty sure it’s not some kind of posturing. He is eating and not losing weight so I will dose my tank with the medication once more to be sure then just go with it. He may just have a condition I cannot treat. Hopefully its not life threatening and he lives a good long life
