Uh...no. As we all know gas is more volatile than water.
You will not always get pure water upon distillation. It has to do with what is in the source water. Although, in this case you're right. The trace elements will stay behind upon boiling the water.

Boiling is a good purification technique, but it is used to kill life and not to remove chemicals.
There is no gasoline in drinking water. Same could be said with ethanol or methanol or any hydrocarbon. Sure they have lower boiling points than water and therefore evaporate first. I was speaking to their case...it won't do anything. It would be irrelevant for me to outline that boiling water will not get rid of gasoline. Some chlorine will boil off but that is about it.
Distillation is an excellent purification technique and it is still used today in the alcohol industry...it removes chemicals.
