Hey guys,
I got the new BMW 7 series, the 745. It's awesome, and a totally different feel compared to the 5 series I have in my avatar.
Imagine the tank I could have had, if I bought a KIA and spent the rest of the 7 series money on a fishtank :)
anybody else into bimmers?

Good for you EUPHORIA.

BMW's are very sharp cars. I love the front ends on them and they are basically my dream car, but the only thing that scares me is their history for failing mechanical parts and the cost to replace them. It might be just because of a bad year or something though. Not sure, just going off Consumer Reports. Cadillacs were just down right horrible though.
NICE RIDE THOUGH!!!!! I'd take it over my brand new saturn everyday, assuming someone paid the difference in payment and insurance ahahahahahaha

I've owned a 3 series for 3 yrs, then a 5 series for 2.5 yrs, and now the 7, and I"ve never had any problems w/ them. When someone makes cars w/ so many features and electronic gizmos and computerized safety controls, there are bound to be more problems than a car that is just body and engine and has absolutely no gizmos and features.

I have a 530i that sits next to my Corvette in the garage every night. Great car as far as ride and comfort. It has had a few problems, but as you said when you get into that level of engineering, there is a lot more to go wrong. For the most part, it is miles above my Corvette in reliability but I don't drive it like I do the vette.
It's a great piece of engineering overall and one of the finest cars available. My neighbor has the 745 and it is sweet. It does have a high cost of ownership though if something goes wrong, but it comes with the territory. Those $200.00 oil changes aren't cheap either.

$200 oil changes.... i'd just change it myself.... they have to be marking that up crazy, plus the labor rates have to be crazy... unless it takes some crazy amount of oil as I'm not exactly sure what a 745 is... I can't afford these cars so I tend to not research them hahahaha

They actually do more than just an oil change. They also use the aircraft type oil filter left over from the days when they only built aircraft engines. We just passed the end of our free services so we have to pay for them now.
One good thing is that BMW does not follow the brainwashing scam that you have to change oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. That is the biggest scam ever put over on Americans and it was all a marketing scheme for everyones favorite quick lube company when they showed up on the scene. That guarenteed they would get double the service at a minimum.
A BMW tells you when to change the oil. Ours goes about 13,000 miles before it needs changing. BMW won't touch it until it time either. Porsche has you change oil once a year or 15,000 miles. Of course, all of these are using Mobile 1 sythentic oil which just does not break down.

Yeah mine is recommended every 15000 miles, but on my 5 series I changed it every 5000 miles just to keep the engine running clean. But on a leased car, if you really don't care about it, just let the dealer do it every 15000 miles. It's their car anyways.
BMWs are expensive, their maintenance is high, but whoever is talking crap about them, why don't you first go test drive one and then come back.
I got my first BMW 5 yrs ago, it was a 3 series sedan, and I"ve been hoooked on it since. This is my 3rd one.

EUPHORIA - You are taking this to personal, just becuase someone does not like your can, who cares, it is just their opinion. I don't think you should insult them for their opinion. I agree that BMWs are nice cars, dollar for dollar, not worth it in my opinion, but that is my opinion. I choose to spend money on funner and more important things then transportation. I have driven most cars that are sold in America, I was a Valet in College and also valet some of the weathiest people in the Country personal parties. The BMW does drive nice, but come on, it is truely hard to justify spending that much more money on a car that still depreciates very fast. I would rather spend the money on a classic car, or very rare car, so I would not have the depreciation.
Don't take my responce personal, I am not flaming you for owning a Beamer, but I would not flame others for not liking them.

No ofense taken my friend, but if you look at the first reply to this thread, you'll know why I got kinda offensive. Other than that if someone is not into a car that somebody else likes, there's nothing wrong w/ it. But there are nicer ways of saying you don't like a certain car (just like you did) rather than calling it junk and trash.
I'd happily buy my fave classic car if I could afford it (mercedes gullwing)

agreed, he should not have called it a trash car. :), especially when we all know it is not a trash car. Even if you don't like them, they are still not trash. The second post could and should have been worded much nicer.
Take care

I used to like like bmws until they hired Chris Bagle and he started ruining all of them. They are still great cars, but in IMO the news ones are all fugly compared to the previous generation. That being said I'll take an M3 over just about any car under $100k.
I saw a video on the internet of a 15 year old kid running from the cops in a stolen M3; let me tell you that kid had some serious skills. He could out drive the cops. The SCCA should be scouting him.

And speaking of expensive oil changes. The Ferrari Enzo takes 12 quarts of $60 a quart oil. $720 without a filter crazy.
I used to think my Triumph was bad with oil at $20 a liter, now I know better.

I think we all agree at this point that cars are a matter of opinion and not everyone is going to like any car. I personally think the new BMWs are awesome looking and I'll trade you my 530i for 745 anyday.
Heck, I've even got my list of cars that I do not like. Not because they aren't any good, but just becaue I don't like them. The top of the list for me as far a more expensive cars are the Porsche Boxsters. I just think Porsche sold out to get a piece of the frenzied market created by the Mazda Miata which no one has managed to touch yet. I don't care for the BMW Z3 or Z4 roadster either. Just my opinion.
The M3 is a great car. My best friend had a M5 but sold it after 6 months. They had a huge oil consumption problem that I don't know if they ever worked out. Last years M3s were having problems with Engines blowing up, but I'm sure many of them were overdriven. Nothings bullet proof.
As far a post number 2? Do the math. Civic + Kid = Richard + Cranium

Euphoria I LOVE
your 745! They are sooo well made it's insane. My sister just bought a '94 325 and it drives like a brand new car, and has options that a new cheapy car doesn't have. The guy who owned it before her put a m3 ground effects on it, and it's pearl black. My brother has a 325 '92 also. I personally would rather have a brand new car than an older bmer, but I'm a girl so it's kinda a essential not really an option, as I don't have a boyfriend right now to fix them for me, and my brother has his own he has to fix. Anyways, congrats euphoria, sweet car.... ali:happyfish
