just wanted to show this monster off, caught him with his guard down a while back, basking under some "mid-day sun", so i grabbed him with a set of hot dog tongs, took some pics and flushed him. you should have seen my girlfriends face, hahaha, it was classic. "EWWW!!! WHAT IS THAT THING?!?"

Why did you flush the worm? Bristle worms are quite benificial to aquariums -- they pose no threat to any healthy livestock. After all, they have no way to attack and kill their prey. The majorty of bristle worms are harmelss grazers which feed on detritus, fish waste, left over fishfood, etc.
If you find anymore which you do not want, please send them to me. I will gladly pay shipping and handling.

i'm not on a bristleworm witch hunt but if i find another one that size, i'll be getting rid of him to, so i'll look you up. i flushed him because i felt he was big enough to pose a decent threat against stinging my hand on some random occasion when i'm moving stuff around in there. :D

Those kind are kinda irritating when you brush against them but the don't seem to have any venom (experience speaking). Soaking in Vinegar completely dissolves the imbedded bristles. That doesn't work for all Bristle Worms but it will work for the one pictured.

really.... i didn't realize there were various species of bristle worms, but it makes sense. found another one about the size of that one the other night, think it's the same kind. he's still in there though, him and another smaller one were fighting after a hunk of krill that everyone else apparently had missed.

There are over 10,000 species of Bristle Worms. :D

I probably would have flushed it too - just too darn big for my taste. With that many species it's hard to know if it's a harmless one, a fireworm or a predator (yes I know the vast majority are beneficial) so with one that size... well, I'm not sure if I'd of left it either. I know if my wife saw it it'd be gone for sure.:scared:

This is "Big Papa". I hand feed him when he comes out when I feed the fish. I put him in a 5 gallon bucket when I had the chance to take a picture. I returned him right after.

I don't think you have anything to brag or complain about. You didn't really give much to reference the size of the worm too. To me it doesn't look that big, check this one out. It belongs to another member of the board.

LOL, I'm glad you can take it so lightly.
How big is the one in your pic? I like the color on him. I have some like that one, but I've never seen them with that kind of luminescents.

well, he was probably about 7 or 8 inches long, but he was pretty thick. not a world record but pretty surprising when i just happened to notice him sunbathing while walking past my tank one afternoon. had never seen one that big in my tank before :)

I have one a little smaller than that that pokes his head out from time to time when I come up to the tank, but I've yet to see one completely unhidden in broad day light.

O.K. you guys need to stop posting pictures like these and the giant mantises. Yesterday while cleaning the tank, my cleaner shrimp jumped up on my elbow while I wasn't looking. All that went through my mind was these sea monsters. I just about ripped off my thousand dollar canopy to get out of there. QUIT IT!!!!!

LOL LOL LOL, dude, you aren't the only one, unfortunately though I don't have to worry about that, my cleaner shrimp died about 2 months ago, now all I have to worry about is that vicious little critter called a clown fish, he thinks the hairs on my arm are worms or something, the other day he actually pulled one of my hairs off of my arm.

yeah, speakin of monsters, i've got either a mantis shrimp or a pistol shrimp in my tank right now. i hear him popping at night but i have yet to locate him. tried the red lense over the flashlight at night, numerous times, seen plenty of other things, including bristle worms, but no uninvited shrimp. it hasn't seemed to have done any harm.....at least none that i can tell....sure would like to catch whatever it is though.

Have you noticed any unusually high number of empty shells? Is there any substrate that has been relocated in the mornings? Are you missing any critters?
