I think the dog grooming is more profitable though. LOL
She spent almost 3 days on this cake. I have no idea how much she would have charged for it. Who knows, maybe we will open a bakery since my daughter is soo into "cake boss" and "DC Cupcakes" and all those shows that she wants to do this.
Down here on LI, she could probably charge around $200 or so for a cake like that. Not sure what the market is like up where you are in NY

My wife spent about 10 hours on that Shea Stadium cake. I think she got about $300 for it.

I charge $60 an hour for my grooming fees. With all the hours I spent on this cake, even at $300 grooming is a heck of a lot more profitable LOL. I am sure I would be a lot faster if I did it more often but I only make these cakes for my kids, so twice a year I get to have fun with their cakes. I'm sure since I am selft taught my technique leaves much to be desired LOL from a professionals stand point. Kind of like me seeing a home groom job. Some are really excellent, but it's still not the same as someone who does it for a living. The kids are happy and I do it for them so that's all that matters. Hoping they remember their cakes fondly when they are older

My wife does the cakes more for enjoyment than to make any real money on them. Since we had our twins she doesnt do too many because of the time involved but she still does a few here and there. That Shea Stadium cake was done before we had the boys and she was able to do it in the evenings over the course of a few days. $20 - $30 an hour is awesome when its time that she would have just been sitting around watching TV or something, but she makes quite a bit more than that in her full time job, which is why she never went full bore and made a career change.
