Breeding Clowns

Hi. I have a 75 gallon aquarium. I would like to breed CLOWNFISH. What are the general steps to do this. I know the basics of clowns like how they start as males but fight and change but can someone please tell me step-by-step how to breed them? Also, could i breed a maroon say with a ocellaris? Also maroon or ocellaris?

There was a thread a few years ago that you should be able to find by searching. I think it was called something like "Raising Clownfish 101"

Buy a really good clownfish breeding book
Buy the proper equipment
Set up your live culture foods
Expect many unsuccessful batches.

If you did some research, you'd learn:
A) it's not easy
B) many people loose their first few batches of fry

For the first time clownfish breeder, you are most likely not going to get a successful batch the first time. I'm just saying expect it, and don't get frustrated, and keep pushing forward. I never said that you sucked at marine ornamental fish keeping... in fact, I hope you are very successful and can go on to teach many people your techniques in the years to come.

Soooo sorry. The young protective part of me came out. I want to breed either maroon or ocellaris clowns. What are some tankmates for my 75? I was thinking about wrasses, etc and swimmer fish. Bird wrasses?

If you do more research, you will find that the best breeding aquarium for a clownfish is a 20g high with a sump with live rock, filter and skimmer and three ceramic tiles it the breeding tank, and nothing else. If you really want to get into breeding clownfish - do it right!
Fry tanks are separate from the breeding tanks
Rearing tanks are separate from the fry tanks.
Each stage of development requires certain live foods or a mix of live foods in order to grow them up.

Less space to swim and be active, less to look at... they get bored and mate.
Let me politely tell you now to... read a book.

It's also easier to target feed the female in a 20 gallon.
The book Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson was a good starter for me.

I recommend the clownfish that you personally love the best. Afterall, if you are successful at breeding them, you will have many, many, small copies...
If you are looking for profit, I would go with a high dollar pair of clownfish like snowflakes or midnights. Something that you can buy the breeding rights to sell...
Wholesale aquacultured common clownfish go anywhere from $5 to $7 a piece. If you have a lot of them and you want to just get rid of them - most dealers will take them off your hands for $3-4.50 each. It's not really a really lucrative enterprise, but it sure is really enjoyable.
