Brown Monti

This Monti is in 2 different tanks, but started out as 1 piece....it fell when I first got it and broke into 3 pieces.
2 pieces are in the 225G under 250W metal halides, and 1 is in the 29G under T5HO......Just look at the difference...............
These are in the 225G...the white on one is from a piece of salt creep that fell on it

This one is in the 29G.....It was a tiny little piece

Tell us about how far they are from the lighting in each tank. I would guess the light is too intense for what it is accustomed to in the 225 and it may take some time to color back up. Just a guess on my part though.

OH, they aren't new....I have had them over 9 months.....The one under T5's is 6" down, and the ones in the 225G under the MH lights are 10" and 12" from the top...

OH yeah I forgot, is the 225 the tank with the high phosphate? If so this is undoubtedly the cause of the browning.

yes it is..BUT.....The funny thing is it's a BROWN monti....LOL....I bought it brown....the coloring in the 225 is brown.....the 29G looks greenish.....I figured it has to do with the lighting..you know how they say different lighting brings out different colors
That is what I was really trying to show
it just amazes me how much the one in the 29G has grown too....it was really small when I put it in, and now it is even beginning to curl (or scroll) whatever the correct term may be

Yep or orange. Some of the pieces of orange monti I gave to the LFS turned brown. Still appears to be alive but is brown.

I think it may be too low under the metal halides. Mine is about 2" from the surface under my PC's in my nano. Maybe try bringing it from 10 or 12 to 5 or 6 to see if it makes a difference. Also I keep mine in the highest flow area in the tank

They are about as high as I can get them.....my rock doesn't go that high in the tank....
OH YEAH...there are also 8 T5HO on the 225G

being that you have high phosphate in the 225g. they wont color up. if you can get phosphates to .04 using a hanna meter, youll start seeing an improvement in colors

I'm working on it :) about to get a bigger w/c can....about to change out my chemi-pure elite
and I have a phospure pad, and some phosguard in there at the moment.....
I think being able to change out 40g's of water as compared to 25g's will help too

OK....I found a Phosban 150....I have looked at a few different sites to try to get more detailed info.....one site says pump 200gps...another says 80-90gph
...and I have no clue LOL
None of them suggest a pump.....would I need a submersible, or one that works out of the tank? Any clue what size or type I should get?
I hate buying pieces.....lol...I like it when they come all in one.....
Going to P aris TX today.....they have a *****....I wonder if they sell these...

WOWWWWWWW....I just saw where they have a Phosban 550 rated up to a 600 gallon...would that be too big? the 150 is obviously rated for 150g's
