BTA Dead on Arrival?

Got this in today from SWF been floating about an hour. When I pulled it out of the box it already had the "stuff" floating above it. I was giving it a chance to warm up and maybe perk up. I am not sure I want to risk putting it into my tank...

Yeah the tentacles are still out around the outside and look like they still have some life to them . It doesn't smell to bad... meaning i can put my nose in the bag and smell it and I don't gag.

If you have a QT, i would put it in there so if it dies it wont die in the DT. As for the lights, im not sure.

OK so I got it out of the bag and into a plastic bowl that is floating on the top of my tank ( held in one spot thanks to my mag float). Hope this pic gives a better idea.

It look like it's in pretty rough shape, almost looks like it's upside down. If it has any chance for survival, that container w/no flow will do it in. I assume you only have the one tank yes? I'd lower in down a bit to give it some circulation, a container w/holes would be better. Without flow, mucus builds up on them that attracts harmful bacteria. Keep an eye on it, if it begins to dissolve or have a very bad strong odor (will make you want to vomit) I'd remove it immediately. I keep going back to try and figure out if the stringy stuff is it's insides.
Go here and check out dying anemones. I wish I could help more.

Sounds like it's just shedding mucus (stress from shipping). It doesn't look dead to me. Put it in the tank with some light flow and leave it alone for 24-48 hrs.
I agree about the lights. It will be better off without lights for now. Turn them on for a short period tomorrow.
They can be difficult to kill. I have tried, believe me. I have one that has split so many times that they are taking over my tank. I went in the other night and tried to get one, but to no avail. He sucked in and clung on to the rock with all his might. Having to do something, because he was smothering other corals, I pinched him, cut him, squeezed him, etc, but he wouldn't let go. Mucus was all over the tank, as well as pieces of tentacles, but no issues with anything in the tank. He stayed hidden for a day and a half, but of course he's right back.

Thanks for all the help. He does seem to be pulling back together. I Moved the bowl he is in down so he as a light flow and so far so good, and he does not seem to be coming apart anywhere that i can see. I will leave him for the night and check him out in the morning.

Not much better today but it did make it through the night. It still looks like the prev pic like its turned inside out, but its not coming apart. I'm going to let it have a little light today and see if that will perk him up.

They can sometimes fool us and recover when we're sure they've had it. From experience they ship well. When I see these arriving in such bad shape it makes me wonder what condition they were in prior to shipping. Was it shipped overnight? A couple things you can do now, keep your tank pristine any parameters out of wack will not help the situation, make sure it has a little flow and just let it be. Will be lookig for updates and still got my fingers crossed.

No real odor but i haven't removed it either to smell it. It is a bubble tip and it totally looks like its upside down but its dark brown on the bottom. I haven't flipped it to look at its foot... maybe i should inspect it, i just don't want to irritate it.
