Bubble Trouble

boron is toxic at levels above natural levels. so if you're not testing for it, it wouldnt make sense to dose it at all. it has a very minimal role in buffering too

the solution I dose is very low in boron. 0.03. Although it is something that is not really discussed often. The vodka dosing has proven to be very benificial thus far except for the bubble. Like I said, I dose very little and may have to decrease and quit. I like the bubble so..... thank you Nike

just for the sake of argument, what should I dose my tank with. My mag is low and I DON'T like the powder mag and strontium.

i would stop the vodka asap and just monitor your nutrient levels. if you're wanting to keep the levels in check, i'd consider running gfo for your tank.
as for your mag, i'd do bulk reef supply (you mix it up) or kent tech m. the bulk reef supply has served me really well. for the price you cant beat it.

I have a bubble coral and for awhile it was doing great. Now it seems to be declining. In the middle of the coral it will not open and one side has shrunken down. Unable to get pics now but in the middle of the coral, I can really see the skeleton. My labs,.... water quality is within perameters. I'm stumped. Now, imagine the middle of the coral not open and the right side shrinking down to little bubbles. It's hard to explain. Please assist.
Hey bud how's life? When you say you have had it for a while what does that mean? Tissue recession in a coral that you have had thriving in your tank for months is usually cause by problems related to alkcalcmag levels. I am not familiar with the Aquavitro product you are using and therefore I wonder why you are using it. As for the vodka dosing, you are doing it at such a low rate I doubt there is any correlation between it and the coral vesicle decline.
Remember there is a balance between the slkcalcmag level and if you are throwing this out of whack with the Aquavitro it could be the cause. Also these coral are usually found in lower lighting situations with randomized - read not linear - flow around them and depending on what light and flow it came from, what conditions you have it under, and how long a while is this could be some acclimation shock.
These are all things to check for, not necessarily things to start aggressively fixing. I see no broken septa, the sharp skeleton ridges, or algae growing on the base, or brown jelly indications so I would be inclined here to let it be for a bit and see what develops. Also these coral would do well with just lighting and a feeding of some soft small foods once per week at most.
JMO from my reading, I have never owned one of these beautiful pieces.

I am using Red Sea mg test kit and the levels are a tad low. Will check again later today. alk/cal unknown at this time. Thank you spanko *waving*. Will update soon. The reason I chose this liquid mag. is because I very much dislike the powder magnesium.
i dislike the reidue the powder leaves behind. Keep in mind, I do dose one half of the rec. dose.
