so that was discouraging. Everyone in the family was pestering me about going and getting the critters espically after i got the crab last night. I really wanted to wait another day to be sure the ammonia went down. Around noon I couldnt stand them anymore and gathered up the 3 urchins and we went out to the LFS. In total we got 3 astria, 3 cernith, and 3 nassi snails, 2 peppers and 1 fire shrimp.
Water test this evening

1.024 (acclimating them took out a lot of system water that was replaced with RO water. Making new SW for top offs and a water change soon)

The shrimp were doing fine picking away at the rock. Most of the snails have disapeared into the tank except for one that actually started cleaning the algae off of the front glass. 1 snail hasnt moved since being placed into the tank. All seemed well......
Until i just looked behind the rock. One of the peppers is all white and on his back barely moving. I doubt he will make it til morning. I am sad, depressed, and heartbroken. I know that I was going to lose critters in the tank, but I just didnt think it would come so soon. If the snail doesnt move by morning, I will be collecting him and the shrimp out of the tank.

Remember, shrimp molt....Sometimes they do right away due to stress
I am new, but this doesnt look like he is molting. He is pale, cant even see the red stripes on him, and the other pepper is doing his "come here i wanna clean you" sway.
The 2 peppers did come from 2 different stores, bit its hard to say which one is which. I figured that I would hope for the best and pray for the little guy to make it. It just doesnt look all that promising right now.

I took another look and it has moved. I cant tell if it molted or not as it is in the back ofthe tank behind the rocks. My side view isnt the worlds greatest and I dont want to turn on the lights to attempt to get a pic. When the shrimp molt, do they look like bubble coral? Its the only way I can descibe it really. I see what appears to be the tail, and above that it looks like bubbles of flesh. AARRGGHH!

YAYYYYYYY....it would not hurt if you did not....or if you did drop in a teeny piece of food
So long as the water stays at 0 ammonia for the next week, I do not have to feed them until I get my pair of ORA clowns from the LFS on sunday (when they go on sale, love the salesman there) and when I feed the clowns, the shrimp will get the extra, yes?

This is where the fire shrimp has taken up residence. This is the best possible pic I can get as its on the back of the tank closest to the side with a wall.

This is where the 2 peppermint shrimp have taken up residence. The one is more out in the open than the other. When I was cleaning the glass, I knocked some of the detrius off the rocks and they all came out to eat. The only problem was the fire shrimp stayed to the back and the fire shrimp mostly stayed under the rocks.

I would imagine that the ammonia is from the new bioload and the bacteria are growing to help "eat" it.

IDK...you didn't add that much

I never had a spike, and embarrasingly enough.....when I started the 225G...I added a crap load of stuff all at once.....I'm surprised I still have most of them HAHA

Well, it wont matter. I have been topping off with RO water, and either tomorrow or Tuesday I will be doing a water change. It iwll be a small one, but a change none the less. Everthing seems to be doing fine in there, even the snail that appeared to be dead has started moving. I cant believe I freaked out over a molting shrimp. Oh well, ya live and ya learn. Everyone in the house is happy when the shrimp come out from their rocks and we all get a good look at them. Everyone is way excited about getting the pair of clowns a week from today. It will be an interesting week for sure.

Are there digital testing devices for the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? I am having such a rotten time reading the color charts. I have had to ask my wife to read them to me lately and her answers are different than mine. How about this, what is the proper way to read the API water test tubes with the color cards? DO you hold the card against the back of the test tube and then guess the color? Do you stand the test tube up on the card and then guess the color? LOL, how expensive are the digital testers?
