Buy ONLINE or at LFS

I am new to the game and already love it. My LFS is about 25 miles away, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the pros and cons of buying saltwater fish online? Trying to save on the mileage and put the savings into my tank.

its pretty much 6 to 1 half dozen the other, cause shipping isn't cheap and usually you have to pay shipping unless it is a large order of about 200+ dollars. Besides I'd rather spend money in my local community, I have about 8 LFS in my city and would rather support their bussines, unless I cant ever find what I like...plus I can see before I buy which I like.

If you are getting a bunch of stuff all at once alot of times that shipping can come in handy. My only local saltwater supplier is expensive so by buying a few things, the shipping is well worth it

I purchase all, expect chemicals, on-line. My LFS is easily DOUBLE that of the internet. Shipping is a drop in the bucket compared to the price difference. I am all for supporting local businesses but it is a joke when the list or MSR is $40 and they sell it for close to $70! On-line is the only way to go, even for fish!

My favorite part of this hobby is the drive to LFS's
Hoping to find what I was looking for. Being happy they had it.
I really enjoy walking the stores and finding that awesome fish or invert.
I like I can see the fish first...not like a cat in the bag!
I'm not saying I wount order online...but I like the Hunt!
I do buy almost ALL my supplies online.
That Pet Place
Pet Solutions
Saltwater-Superstore

Is that your Clown Trigger pictured in your Avatar? If so, how big? I was talking to my LFS and the guy told me that 1 in 3 would survive. Have you ever heard that? The Clown Trigger is on my "I need to have list".

I have NO LFS...so I have to buy everything online..if you want good fish and corals...this site has excellent stuff...and $19.99 is not bad for shipping...the nearest fish place is 90 miles from me ....so 180 miles round trip + dinner and shopping..LOL
$19.99 is much cheaper

No he is not.
But years ago I had a 7" clown just like it.
By far my most favorite fish. I really missed him when he went.
I had it for about 3 years.
The 1 out of 3 thing... well I found over the years dont feed them fatty foods all the time..like silversides..got mix up the diet..they eat almost anything. Just moved and will set up my 125 and will def get another!

YEA.
When I lived in New York I had like 10 great stores
When I lived in New Jersey I had only 4 worthy stores and had to Drive
Here on Marco Island I have only 2 I would go to and they're a hike
But soooo much fun when you find that fish!

since you are new to the hobby, i really recommend you try to find a lfs that you can trust, before they rob you for every dollar that you have and every dollar you are going to have in the near future.
i never regretted buying from swf..kim is really nice and extremely helpful..do some research on what you want to have in your tank, then make some moves!

IDK..LOL...They had a rough night...last night they got "moved" I believe by my MEAN 3 spot damsels. We had to take 1/2 the tank apart to find them, and then I had to go out...I will check them in the light tomorrow..
