Buying a full used system need advice.

Hey guys I am thinking of buying a whole setup off the bay, it says its got a ecosystem pro sump, with a asm g1 skimmer, are those products any good? Also he wants you to take everything, live rock and live sand even the water. Would'nt you just dump the water and start with some fresh once you get home?
Also if thats the case, would you have to cycle the tank again? Thanks you guys are the experts, I'm still learning.

I"m not and expert by no means. but I also bought a tank form a guy on ----. but picked it up locally. He gave me the substrate and all the equiptment. I already had the live rock because I wanted to upgrade to a bigger size tank. Actually I added my own water and let it cycle for around three weeks to be on the safe side. I've never had any problems with it at all. guessing having the already live rock and live substrate helped.

What size tank? How long has it been up and running? What type of lighting? How much live rock? We can better help if we have the whole lay out.

I would not take the water, I don't believe this would help in any way? that would be more of a pain unless this is a very small tank. Just keep enough to keep the sand and rock submerged to keep from die-off. I'm guessing if you don't have a full cycle you will have some spikes due to moving everything and stirring everything up, esp. if it has a deep sand bed. Def. give it time and assume your going to have a cycle and take it slow. Another tip, if you keep it fish-less 4-6 weeks you can make sure you don't have the ich parasite in the set-up, it can be transferred on anything wet. Then all you have to do is QT any new fish before adding it to the tank and you will never have to deal with the mess. Hope this helps.

It's a 65 gal tank, been cycled for a couple months 40 lbs of LR and oydseea MH lights. U guys heard of that brand?
