Nice.... remind me to stay out of the reef tank forums.
And I meant respect for ME spiny. Respect for the fact that I LOVE the mantis. You can do what you want with them, but why belittle the thing in this hobby I am most passionate about in the very thread I am in sharing pics of my beloved pets? I wouldn't expect any holds barred if I wandered into the mantis cocktail hour forum. And I would have enough respect for you not to go into one of your grouper threads and start talking about sashimi.

Mantis shrimp are cool to me because they are one of if not the smartest invert in the ocean. Plus they can see like twenty different spectrums of light (even X-ray)

A damsel and a mantis? Or just a damsel?
Just a damsel *thumbs up*
With a mantis... nope... not unless you don't really care for the damsel.

I guess i understand some people might be upset he killed it, but no one should make him feel bad. would you guys just let a gorilla or stone crab kill your fish if it meant you didnt have to kill it, or would you take it out and get rid of it???
(when i caught my gorilla crab, i dumped it out of a bucket onto the concrete, and immediately smashed it with a big piece of dead rock, instantly smashing it to pieces, fastest way to kep it from feeling any pain...)

A quick post on the local reef club forum would have solved the issue without killing the animal. I wonder what God thinks when I inject one of His creatures with lemon juice and Kalk to kill it. If I leave the hobby, this will be why. Is spraying ants worse than shooting bald eagles from the sky? At what point do we consider life precious?
Just something to ponder the next time we feel the need to kill the animals we are in charge of looking after.
so while on vacation in places that are humid and with mosquito's you just let them suck on you till they are done and fly away?
No you don't. Don't preach. Some of you people really need to get a reality check.

Cran... I by no means meant to disrespect your love for mantis. I two once had one as a hitchiker and took it to the fish store instead of killing it. The only point I was trying to make is "stuff" happens, and someone brought up the word irresponsible (it wasn't you), and I don't think that was fair. In this hobby stuff gets killed all the time, sometimes on purpose(aiptasia for instence), and sometimes not. So accept my apology, for offending your love forthe mantis shrimp(which by the way looks really cool) and we will move on.

Does he sound like he feels bad ? I think cool is a better word. And for you.... You think coming in bragging about your killing something is cool. there are people who are responsible enough to capture the unwanted creature and find it a home. Then there are people like salt nate who probably made a mistake not knowing how everyone would react. I think he would handle it right next time. then there are people who want to make supid comments about what they've killed in an already sesitive situation. the third type of people are the worst.

Big difference ! The tank is a mini eco system where all life is dependant on you. You chose to control this life system and make smart choices for it. A bug that attacks you in the free and open world is fair game. You didn't choose to have a mini world controlled by you with this knat in it. If you are going to make comparrisons, use logical similiar circumstances.

cran, yes a damsel and a mantis.
and you know me....the damsel wont mean that much to me(being the murderer I am) i will keep it in there until the mantis kills it and get another!
the way that I judge value of life is how much the fish/invert costs
