BTW, it worked great.
I started to see corraline growth in a few weeks, which is great considering I didn't see any growth in over a year.
I started topping off w/ just RO (NO baking soda) only the last few days, and my ALK already went down.
I think I'm going to have to continue to add baking soda all the time until I switch salts.

I didn't say that very well.
When you add Sodium Bicarbonate to a reef tank (Baking Soda & water) the PH and Carbonate concentration will be very very high in the local area where it was poured in for just a fraction of a second. During that brief time some of the Carbonate may react with Magnesium already in the water and form Magnesium carbonate for a short period of time making the water a little cloudy.
Once the PH drops the MgCO3 will begin to redissolve.

but why not just use soda ash and water without having to even worry about Mag?
Not being a jerk...just asking?

Soda ash is fine to use, it will have an even greater chance of reacting with Magnesium in the water. The major difference is that when you add Carbonate a large percentage will actually convert to Bicarbonate. This is based on PH but the process of conversion will actually raise PH temporarily. If your PH is already in the ideal range then you would not want to use Sodium carbonate because of the rise in PH.
