dont add any more calcium and let it come down on its own. Whats your alk? If its from salt try tropic marin. My cal was over 600 when I was using oceanic. Nothing bad happened to my tank.

I would not worry. It will come down, and the low alk will rise in proportion to the calcium level coming down. A lot of the salts are high in calcium. Oceanic seems to be one of those as does Instant Ocean, but it usually does not cause a problem.

I second using Tropic Marin it's the best I've used. Oceanic I had diatoms every water change. Instant Ocean in my experience was low in Calcium and I had to supplement it. SeaChem is selling new salt especially made for reefs. I havent heard any reports on it yet though. Carrie

I too use IO. But I've found that it is usually low in calcium. Otherwise I don't have a problem with it. I've used it for over a year without problems.

Instant Ocean, calc should be at 350. Every bucket I've bought the calcium is at 350. I made the mistake of getting reef crystals once my phosphates were outragous.

Are you mixing your saltwater using tap water?
If not, dilute a cup of your tank water with a cup of RO water and then test for calcium. That will tell you how far above 500 you are (double the results). If it's not too far off then you're fine and I wouldn't change anything.

Maybe you do not want to know...
When my salt was rediculously high I diluted my sample size in half with ro water and than multiplied my test result by 2.

I use Tropic Marin with lots of traces elements but no Nitrates or phosphates. It works pretty good for me.

I am cycling through them. I have used Corallife, Instant Ocean, Tropic marin and am now onto Red Sea Salt starting tonight to see what kind of effect it has........
