im building my new tank, after finally cycling...so far in it is 4 small blue damsels, 1 hippo tang and 1 sailfin tang..along with about 80 pounds live rock, a few emerald crabs, an arrow crab, and 50 or so snails and hermits to keep it clean. id really like a nice anemone and a pair of clowns in the tank next, yet am not quite sure what kind of anemone i can add to the tank without it destroying everything in the tank, as ive read most of them are pretty aggressive, and my tank is nice and peaceful so far...any help greatly appreciated! ... also, what clowns to add as well...and where is a good place to get em, b/c my lfs tends to be pretty pricey

no anemone until at least, IMO around a year... so the tank is very mature. and i would get rid of one of those tangs

Definately without a doubt DO NOT put a sailfin tang in a tank that small. And the blue hippo? Only if you want to part with it when it gets to big! They can get to a foot long! Live rock is a good idea, as is the crabs. But IMO you should rethink your fish list. Also, get the damsels out BEFORE you add the rock, cause if you wait, it's almost impossible.

I actually was gonna offer alternatives, but I didn't because I don't know his tastes. He wanted a Hippo or Sailfin so I was gonna offer a Yellow...but then I thought, maybe he likes BLUE, not necessarily Tangs themselves. So then I backspaced all the way through it, and figured I'd wait to see if he asks for suggestions.:)

I agree.
If its an 80 gallon you sould get
3- Percula clowns
1- 6 line wrasse
1- yellow tang
50- snails
next year:
2 anemones for the 3 clowns.

i'm gonna hafta disagree with taht.. no, not 3 percs, chances are, and are v ery likely, 2 will pair up and they will kill the 3rd.. so why risk it... i wouldn't get an anemone's until you have enough light... and then at least a year of the tank being set up

ive been away for a bit, but came back to see that i should get rid of the sailfin and the hippo? its an 80 gallon tank..not an 8...and its about 6 feet long..a little longer with the base...they have PLENTY of room to swim around in there...im also adding a pair of clowns in the next few days..but as for the tangs, theyre staying, and getting along just fine...if they end up getting way to huge, then i guess i'll have to move em elsewhere, but to say a 6 foot long tank is too small for 2 tangs is something i cant agree with

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree. It's your tank and your choice. People are just sharing opinions.
Best of luck to you.
