i understand. but still you shouldnt mention anything about me anything at all. it was my choice of doing that and all the sharks came out happy and survive. i did not lose not even one.

because he was using you as his reasoning to put a shark in a small tank and I responded by saying you were a moron, it was my bad but we all have our moments. it was your choice and you do what you want for sure, but new people like this guy get bad ideas from people who do things that aren't the best for fish and they don't learn properly.

The guy came in and asked a question because they are obviously new to this hobby. I understand people get aggitated by these questions but we all have to sit back and realize we were all once there. Every single one of us. The guy asked a legit question not fully knowing the answer. Nissan has a very active thread that nobody really shot the idea down in and they went from there.

to be honest I really don't care. the OP hasn't even responded so obviously it was just started so they can get a laugh. asking if you can put a SHARK in a 55g tank is not a legit question because it should be common sense. all it takes is 2 minutes of research and you will find out. I apologized to nissan for saying he was a moron, I was annoyed and the guy said he got the idea from him so I used the my words incorrectly, lets let this one fade away, it's really pointless for us to be arguing while the OP is probably laughing at us.

yea thats true. but choose your world carefully next time like that we dont get any problems

Sep deleted the unacceptable words. Everyone is cool. I can't see a reason to lock the thread. So, for clarity: the minimum tank for a shark is 220g. Correct?

Its not really the gallon amount more so the demensions of the tank. I could house a smaller coral cat shark in a 180 that is flipped on it side and have plenty of swimming room and room for it to turn without smashing the glass.

thats also good. theres lot of shallow tanks out there that are custom made. I.E. my friend in the Keys has a 150 shallow with 2 BBCS (black banded cat shark) and the tank is 1 foot high but the width is like wow! huge! he has them for 3 years now and each year they get bigger. even i fit in the tank. he moving them by july to his 500g shallow with the nurse shark he has there

FWIW, a typical 180gal, is 72"x24"x24"

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I've had 3 count 'em three sharks in one of my 75s for about 4 years.
Ok you got me-they're silver catsharks

Okay - a 55 gallon may only work as pupping tank(for a couple of months) or a QT for a newly hatched bamboo, epaulette or catshark. But all of these species will need a tank larger than 250-300 gallons eventually.
Also planning to keep a shark(benthic or bottom dwelling) with triggers or puffers - always a Bad Idea. There's been too many horror stories about aquarists losing their sharks to aggressive triggers, angels, or puffers.
Personally I would highly suggest that anyone seriously considering getting a shark for the home aquaria - first do some detailed & indepth research on the subject.
Most knowledgeable aquarists will tell you forget the minimum of 180 gallon - it more like 250-300 at least - for the smallest available species.
