Can i use distiled water?

Hey guys i just brought some distiled water from wal greens it is purified by steam distillation micron filtered and ozonated could i use this in my tank instead of tap water is it reverse osmosis water do i need tap water conditioner to put in it and is it safe for my fish and coral i have a green star polyps plz hurry i want to do a water change today.

From what I read, distilled water really strips all the good stuff out of the water, but it can be used if you really need to use it. However, the best water is still ro water, if you can get a hold of that, then use it.

Nothing wrong with distilled water at all. Use it for top off or mix salt in it for water changes.
The reason most people use RO/DI water is because it's more cost effective.

Don't use a tap water conditioner. Ever.
It will probably reduce the food for the Cyano. Water is only one source of nutrients for Cyanobacter. The other typical source of excess nutrients is fish food. Often there's also an insufficinet waterflow where cyanobacter is present.

Yeah, distilling the water pretty much makes it pure water with no minerals or any of the stuff that is added to make the water we drink safe. It is perfectly fine to use in SW aquariums. The salt mix we use adds the things we need in our setups. RO/DI units is the most economic route.

oh ok ill take that in mind next time i already put it in with the distiled water just to make sure that their was no copper and make sure that the cyano die also do u no how long it may take before it completely goes away if i keep using distiled water for weekly water changes and top offs?

It also depends on your husbandry habits. The cyano will thrive off of excess nutrients from overfeeding and not keeping up with the maintenance as well as keeping the lights on too long.

i never over feed and the light come one at 6:00 when i wake up to go to school and go off when i go to bed usually 10:30 to 11:00

I would cut the lighting down to 6-8 hours. I would have them come on when you get home from school.

How much waterflow do you have in the tank?

Never use tap water conditioner...
When water is distilled, all of the chemicals, nutrients, minerals, heavy metals etc. are no longer present. It's very pure. Because it is so pure, there is no reason to use a conditioner.

Put your lights on a cheap timer... Perhaps the best and easiest thing to do with lighting. Set it for 8 hours. Possibly 4-6 at first to get rid of some cyano. Then start doing some water changes with the new clean distilled water and cyano should start going away.

i also use a aquaclear mini with a sponge and a activated carbon on the top which is rated for a bigger aquaclear pump that i use (will be upgraded to chemi pure elite in the future the second is a aquaeon power filter 10 which came with the kit

i feed the tetra color marine flakes (its almost empty so im about to start feeding them the hikari marine s pelets i know their probally beter for them than the flakes because hikair is a good brand of food right?)
