besides.
a thread about algae may have come, and gone.
somebody with a good opinion / experience may not have seen it to give his input. perhaps they will see this newer post and share their info with us. i'll read as many posts about hair algae, or whatever im looking for, that i can find. learn something new each time.
then again, its only a messageboard. get over it. seriously.

I enjoy the forums here, but some things seriously need to change:
1. People who know nothing giving advice. Its not about having 500 posts a month. Its about giving people accurate advice...there are way to many noobs talking and not listning. Perfect Dark , Sep, Beth, Lion, ophiura, 1journey, bang,( Sorry,I know I'm missing some) all give great advice and should I not no something, I would trust what they tell me.
2. Use the search feature....i get tired of seeing the same questions that have been answered a hundred times before. There are so many usesless threads that could be avoided.
3. Don't troll, its just not cool....and don't post stupid comments like
(ChrgerOnDavins)I still think tangs need at least a 130,000 gallon tank so they can play hopskotch and drive sports cars
( SH2000) Where to begin????
4. Keep your profile up to date...if you're asking about a naso and your profile says 12 gal nano or even worse nothing...expect to be flamed.
5. Don't bother asking questions you don't want to hear the honest answer to...people ask a question simply to get that one person who thinks its ok to put 4 tangs in a 55gal
Anyone agree with me?
I personally think Tang Whispr is probably one of the worst posters around. He thinks he knows everything about this hobby and often lends no constructive advice or comments. He just goes around bashing other peoples comments he doesnt agree with. If you feel someone is giving bad advice i would comment on that and give an explanation why.
For example if someone is asking to put 4 tangs in a 55 instead of giving your typical answer of your a newb and dont know what your doing say something like, tangs thrive when they have a minimum of 6 ft to swim and can often grow upwards of 8in which would make them to large for a 55g.
A thread like this goes against everything you said you want to stop and does nothing but waste space on SWF.com's servers.

I agree for the most part with you TangWhispr. My take on your points:
1. A lot of people give good advice, but each member has their forte. It's nice for noobs to contribute their experiences though, but there are a lot of people going after the post count.
2. The search feature helps, but there are a lot of unique situations for different people even if the problem is similar. Sometimes the search feature doesn't really give you what you're looking for.
3. I'm staying away from, but there is a difference between being funny and being a PITA. Posting the same comments in many threads is not funny. And the people who think threads are stupid (like "to the tank popo") do not need to lighten up, or "re-evaluate their life." If you're posting a thread to piss people off (which the OP did in that case) you need to "re-evaluate your life" The people who wanted that thread closed (myself included) wanted is closed because it was pointless, going nowhere, an attempt to get people fired up, and uneducational. It had nothing to do with the tang police, and nobody wanted it closed because they though it went against their thoughts/ beliefs.
4. IDK how many people check on this, but it's helpful when people want to know about stocking or equipment but don't give tank size etc, their profile would be a nice place to look.
5. I've seen a lot of threads when the OP says something like "Here's what I want to do, don't post if you're going to say I can't" (They know they shouldn't be doing what they're posting about, but want someone to agree with them).

I am not sure what this has to do with the topic at hand. I don't personally think that it would matter if all of them did or none of them did.
The fact of the matter is that post what you know, and leave the things you do not know about to someone that does. If you are not completely sure but you have a good idea, you could start your responses to someone in such a way that it does not convey fact such as...
"I am not positive but I heard that tangs should be kept in nothing shorter than a six foot tank" (by the way this in no way signifies my feelings towards the issue, just an example)
I also think that a lot of people need to lighten up and give your information in a more constructive way, rather than purposely flaming someone when they say they have a blue hippo tang in a 55 gallon tank. If you think about it this way if you said "you know you should probably upgrade your tank or bring that fish back to the LFS at some point because I think it will eventually outgrow your tank" you would probably get a much better response and possibly help the fish out as opposed to the normal flaming that gets posted here a lot and the poster decides that you are just a jerk and doesnt listen to you.

I agree here as well. A few of the posters that are more knowledgeble than the new guys tend to be a little harsh, which doesn't help anyone out. I think the way you respond to something is just as important, if not more so, than the information within your response. Just because you know something that someone else doesn't (or think you do) doesn't make you any better of a human being. Showing a little respect goes a long way and will help to get your message across and also make people more receptive to your information. Being pushy does nothing other than have your comments ignored in most cases.

Singling out people in your post is considered a violation and I expect you to get a warning from the mods for your comments. completely out of line.

I agree with you on some aspects, but I find your delivery lacks much to be desired. I've only been into saltwater for less than 2 years. But, I feel I've learned a lot in that time - especially what not to do.
Someone already mentioned this, but throwing up a thread like this is counter-productive. All you're doing is alienating newer people to the hobby.
Might I suggest that if we irk you so much, you log off.

for the last time if i was able to find exactly what i was looking for i would not strat a thread this is not brain science if you do not wanna answer dont if you wann ahelp great..do not call me a troll do not call me any names I don't need this garbage from you. I'm always going to post and ask any question I have that just too bad for you if that offends you I really do not care. I post threads for info and so others can see info if i was able to find the info by the search i would and lastly i'm not updating my profile daily..I have 7 tanks with over 500 animals I have 7 different filters 7 different ph's 7 different heaters..chillers,dif lighting fixtures, dif sb's dif, skimmers, dif. reactors..etc....to the OP this thread was pointless and you should have been warned for singling out people. GROW UP if you don't like what you read just move on to another post. Calling me a troll ? nice opinion I think your a piece of hair algae does that work for you ? Maybe not to piss people off, but you did not start that thread for educational reasons, and you said yourself that you exaggerated and posted for "fun and games."
As far as I'm concerned, the "tang police" were not even involved in that thread. There was no discussion of tang environment. The people who got a kick out of your thread thougt that the people who wanted you thread closed were the "tang police" and might be offended because a public aquarium was keeping many tanks in a smaller tank. Nobody was trying to "silence" you because of that, you did not even express an opinion.
