ok for this to have happened he would had to fully injest this(swallow)and alot more than one grain of sand.common sense tells us to wash our hands after handling anything from or for our tanks no matter how minute it may seam .with this type of organ melt down there is no way humanly or animal possabilty to feel fine for any length of time let alone 10 days .can this make you sick of course it can as like handling any other waste can make one sick its bacteria .yes ive had that nasty syphon mouth plenty of times myself .common sense tells to you spit it out .the taste tells you to grab the mouthwash quick lol hense you just killed the bacteria. you did the right thing and dont worry if you use precautionary measures such as washing of hands and mouth when called for lol you should have any problems.

Wow, are you serious?
I have gotten moutfuls all of time and I did not go to half of the trouble of rinsing and brushing that you did. Many a time at the LFS I worked at I would get a mouthful, and I can tell you this because I am still alive here today, years later after my first brush with the near fatal saltwater mouthful lol.

I knew a guy outside of Tampa who died from swallowing a little bit of salt water. Ok so he was about 5 miles out in the Gulf when his boat tipped. But still the same it got him.

your friend was one of the unluckiest people in the world to have come across an exotic poison that was powerful enough to kill him yet gentle enough to remain in his system 10 days symptom free. I can assure you if he see's the most experienced doctor because he got tank water in his mouth and tells them he feels fine like your friend did he will be sent home untreated. As a reg nurse I can also assure you vital organs dont get destroyed without symptoms. if a liver is failing you get jaundice, weakness ect, when a kidney is being destoyed you get edema, fatique ect. If most were failing its impossible to be symptom free. If he died as a result of poisoning 10 days earlier there were symptoms unless like I said the poison remained dormant for 9 days and took full effect in one day.

I've swallowed tank water, ocean water, saltmarsh water... Not much to report but a tic over my left eye.
j/k.
You're fine, Flight. A little tank water just reminds you why you prefer Brita. :)

I wouldnt worry about it but if you find yourself purposely running into walls(flashing) and or scratching, you might want to have yourself checked for Ich. :hilarious

epitoky: a portion of the bristleworm becomes packed with eggs or sperm and becomes highly specialised for swimming, some even developing eyes! This portion is called the epitoke. At mating time, the epitoke breaks off from the main worm and can move about on its own. Swimming to the surface, it is joined by the epitokes of other bristleworms. At the surface, the epitokes burst apart, releasing eggs and sperm for external fertilisation. In this way, the worms can reproduce without exposing the rest of their bodies to danger. However, while an epitoke might be a new segment produced by the animal, sometimes the entire animal is remodelled into an epitoke and rips itself apart during mating. Mating is usually triggered by the lunar cycle.
Found one of these in my tank last night, I'll be more careful while siphoning next for sure. Not because it would kill me, but just because thats kinda gross.

Do hypo in the bathtub w/ some oatmeal. It cured my bad case of Itch.
A while back, some posted a story about a couple mysteriously died while cleaning their SW tank. Hmmm.... If you find yourself dehydrated, seek professional help. You might have a bad case of hypersalinity dihydrogen oxide poisoning.

Its certainly not a concern, unless you drink a lot of salt water its gonna give you a severe stomach and intestonal upset and the runs......odds are its probably much safer than most swimming pools and lakes that people use for swimming etc, and its certainly no worse than saltwater in your mouth when swimming in the ocean.
