They usually put their tentacles out during the night like most coral. You can get them to come out during the day if you feed a small amount and then come back in a few minutes to finish feeding.
They're not as light-needy as most coral. Although, there are a few different types of candycanes and I'm not positive that all can be considered "low-light". There are this really neon green colored candycanes and I'm not sure at all what got them so dang neon...but I'd suspect that a lot of light did it.
Mine are super neon greenish yellow.

PS. How come sweepers at night? is that normal coral feeding time, at night?
