i was told that most carpets would eat everything in my tank if they got ahold of it, he said that they would eat tangs etc. is this right or does it depend on the anemone(if its hot or not). Like a blue carpet, or a hadoni

I beleive most if not all anenomes will eat anything they can get their hands (tentacles) on. Clowns, anenome shrimp and crabs being the exception.

yeah good point, but i mean is there a better chance of a carpet doing it than a bta, or lta.

All anemones will try and get a hold of anything in the tank. However a carpet anemone will succeed 99% of the time.. They have the most powerful sting, and once something is caught.. They are gone.... There is a slim chance that it will heal back to normal atleast....
I have trouble getting my hand off a carpet when I was dealing with them at the LFS... I would need a prod of some sort to get it off of me...
Cheers,

My blue carpet has eatten alot of fish in its time...So I don't spend alot of money on nice fish. Just keep fish that like to be in and out of the rock, My yellow tang hangs out right next to the carpet but stays out pretty well. I have even seen it pul food out of it that has fallen in. But I keep my carpet in an end of the tank with out rock so most fish hang out over the rock.

Are you looking for a clownfish host? If so I would got with the one that has the best chance of being a host.
If you just want an anenome, either the LTA or BTA seem to do well.

Carpets often eat their Clownfish. I've seen them eat an Urchin. Very very sticky animal.

I would recommend a hobbiest propogated Bubble-tip. If you can't find that then the Bubble-tip sold here is VERY reasonably priced and should do very well if properly housed.

kpk - I can't tell for sure what that is. In the pic it almost looks like there are 2 or 3 of them. If they are very small they might be tulip anenomes, a cousin of bubble tips.
I agree with Bang Guy on the anenomes. If you get one get tank raised bubble-tip. :D
I actually saw a carpet ingesting a full grown naso tang that had been in the same tank for 4 years...

instead of posting another thread, let me ask another ? is there any way to completly get rid of hair alge or will it be with me forever? I thought i had it kicked but its kinda pokin it's head out of my rocks again. I have 20 nass. snails, 3 mex. turbo, 30 astrea, 20 redleg hermit, 20 scarlets, 10 bluelegs, and 5 emerald crabs. parameters are great, no amm., nirtate, or nitrite, very low phosphate(RO water). I might be feeding too much about 2 times a day, garlic shrimp. any suggestions. I hate this stuff...
