Yea, I don't think it wasn't really a 'big deal' thing, it's was just that the program seems so wasteful. The are a ton of better uses that Aurora could have been put to use for then to have sand poured down it's throat. I think it's a bit more 'emotional' then it should be because Auroras are 'my' cars. I really like them. There are a lot of other forums that are livid too, there are camaro guys sad to camaros being put to death, 5.9L Limited Grand Cherokee's for jeep guys, etc..
We were thinking of trading our mom's old 2001 Suburban (she has an 07 now) in for a Pontiac G8, because with the dealer matching programs, it as a trade-in would be less amount. But the thought of having the Suburban killed for no reason is ridiculous. The truck did nothing but serve us and keep us safe for eight years and in no way shape or form deserves to be killed. It still has tons of life and would serve some one less fortunate.
I could see getting emotional about a classic car or even something like the end of run birds and cameros but a Suburban?

Don't worry. It is done humanely. I promise and assure you it will feel no pain or suffering at all. You have my word on that.

I dunno I was really sad when we got rid of our (last year) 87 surburban with 300k miles on 2nd motor and original tranny. It was a beast of a car. I just don't understand a 2001 being old.

I don't think it's really that it's emotional about the truck, that's why we're trading it in/getting rid of it, but just to see it go to waste being killed, is too much. I mean I do have some memories with it too, we used it in one of the highschool parades, all dressed up, and I've piled 8 of my friends in plenty of times and headed to football games, the beach, etc. It was the car I learned to do a burnout on too...
, .
As to why we want to get rid of it, it's my parents third car. My mom has an 07 Suburban, and my Dad has an GMC Envoy. We kept it cause my brother didn't have a car while he was starting to drive still at home. He's got his own car now, and the 01 Suburban sits till they take the dogs to creek/beach/etc. It's an 2001 with 170k, original motor, 2nd tranny. Because the used truck marketplace has never recovered from the summer gas spike last year (was it last year?), it's really only worth about $6000 or so. My parents would like to get a nice sporty car and they really like the G8 GT (doubt the GXP would qualify). With some dealers matching cash, that's $9,000 off a G8, and with Pontiac on it's way out, it's even cheaper, which makes it pretty affordable. But with the clunkers program meaning certain death for a perfectly good truck, we're passing for now.
