Catalina Goby in a reef?

Does anyone have one in their reef? I know they are a cooler water fish but was wondering if anyone has had success with them in a reef, which is usually 78-82 degrees. I think they are mentioned as being reef safe, don't know why if reefs only grow in warmer water (I THINK).
I have mexican turbo snails that are supposed to be cooler water invertebrates (from mexico just like the goby) in my reef tank which is usually 80-82 and are doing fine. They've actually grown quite a bit.

I've never kept one myself...but I have always heard that the catalina gobies don't adjust well to most closed systems....unfortunate too because they are very kewl little fish.

We have 4 of them in our 125 reef with no problems. The water is 80-82 degrees and the catalinas are doing fine.

Above post being an exception not the rule, Catalinas fare poorly in reef tanks. They come from 72 degree water and do not adapt well to 80-82 and generally will not survive long term as they slowly cook.

I agree with the above. Catalina Gobies are temperate fish and their lifespan is severly shortened at reef temperatures.

I love clown gobies. Not exactly what you're looking for I'm sure, but I think they're just adorable.

These guys know more than me so I guess I would not get them. Mine have only been in the tank a couple of months. Not sure why mine are still alive but they seem happy. :notsure:

I have two of them or had, very small in size but great color. But with the new season of spring rolling in, my house got really hot while i was at work and the tank hit close to 90 :nervous: When I got home everything was fine but I was worried about the little guys whom I didnt see at all. Havent seen them as a week past by and finally I seen one. These fish do love the cooler waters and I read are to look great in small schools but from what I seen all they did was swim around the shadows and didnt appear enough to make a buddy system. Now I have a yellow clown goby and he is a fun fish to watch. :jumping: :D :jumping:

Well, i decided not to get one. Maybe in the future, if I decide to lower the temp to 76 degrees, I'll think about adding one. Thanks, for the advice guys.

I'm thinking 66 might be more like it....Don't these fish come from the Pacific Ocean off California?

Yep. 66F is right on. Typical temp around Catalina Island.

Hence the name Catalina Goby:D I'm guessing these are collected down south in Mexican waters? might be a little (I mean little) warmer down there.
:notsure: I wonder where these are collected? Surly not in US waters, do ya think?
