The problem is that all of the people have snatched up the ammo, due to the 'risk' of anti-gun or anti-ammo legislation being passed. It has cooled a little, so the prices have come down.
I would watch gunbroker like a hawk. There have been a few really good deals, that I've seen. You'll probably do better at a gun show/expo though.

I'd agree, attend your local gunshow.
The "risk" is real, but the effect may be a bit pronounced. The Obama admisintration initially called for the destruction of military brass. This limited home reloaders and some "bargain" outlets who reloaded once fired military brass for retail sale. The order has recently been lifted, and this seems to have freed up the market. 9mm still seems to be tough to get along with reloading supplies.
Time will tell who was right and who was wrong.

It is real, did you see that lou dobbs report that Obama wants to get congress to ratify a gun registry treaty? One that clinton signed but congress never voted on.

Georgia Arms is where I order bulk target rounds from. Their "canned heat" is bulk target rounds packed in surplus ammo cans. Pretty decent prices, but it helps that I'm located so close to them, as shipping will kill you.
My understanding is that they are not reloads, but regardless they've shot just fine for me.
Last time I ordered I ordered 1000 rounds of .40 S&W for $260. That's $0.26/rd. Wal-Mart who has the absolute best prices I've seen has boxes of 50 for $12.97, so that's 25.94 cents/rd, so basically the same thing.
Gun shows are another great place to buy ammo. Search google for gun shows in your area, you can usually find a bulk vendor that has decent prices, and you won't pay shipping.

MSN reported, last week, that Pelosi and Ried publicly stated they would not let any gun control legislation come up for a vote. Not even as a rider on other legislation. They have learned the lesson of Bill Clintons disastrous "assualt" weapon ban. This is the ammunition manufacturers version of the oil company stategy. Tell everyone the supply is dwindling and drive the prices up. Yeah, lefties are always grabbing for guns, but this is a disgusting sales ploy by the ammunition manufacturers. Their costs haven't gone up, but they are now charging 2-3 x the price.

My husband gets alot of email updates from "ammoman." Walmart is very cheap but they never have any 9mm or 22 in stock. Goes as fast as they get it in. Plus they are limiting it to 1 box per person.

.22 has stayed fair priced but is only slightly harder to find than normal. Walmart is best around for bulk .22
I am in California but I saw masses of .22 still in stock last time I looked.
.223 or even .308 and 7.62 has gone through the roof. Hard as a beast to find without being attached to some speculator trying to gouge everyone.

Oscar is right, it is due in no small amount to the order that once fired military surplus brass be destroyed rather than sold to vendors to reload and sell as target ammo. Reason 1.
Several internet rumors have circulated about nationwide "ammunition accountability" which is basically regulations that register ammo to the user. Most saw this as gun registration by another name. Reason 2.
Other internet rumors circulated that Obama was planning to tax the hell out of ammo. Reason 3.
The media has been squaking about huge runs on guns and ammo at gun stores, causing people to feel that they should get in or be left behind. Reason 4.
Finally, the AWB has been widely rumored to be supported by Obama. The AWB does not forbid the posession of so-called "assault weapons," rather just the sale. Ergo most reasoned that shoudl the AWB be reinstated (with no sunset timeframe as rumored), they would never be able to buy certain items again, so everyone started going on buying binges (me included, but for different reasons). Reason 5.
I find it hard to believe that the ammo industry colluded and caused a run, I think it's more of a snowball effect than anything else.
