is he in some sort of crevice?
did you acclimate him to the 500 wats of MH?
did u get it from a LFS or online?
that looks like a crocea, so they really like lots of light [but gradualy]
tyr to put him all the way on the bottom for now and slowly move him up to the spot you have for him.
what other corals and inverts do u have in the tank and how old is the tank.
water specs?

Any hermits in your tank? Sometimes they'll bother a clam. What are you feeding the clam? How deep is your tank? What kind of halides was it under when you bought it? You could possibly have more wattage then it was used to. Did you start the clam low or high in your tank? Just a few questions. I have my 2 under a 400 watt halide at the bottom of my tank....pretty good current, use dt's for food. That's a crocea right?

have been feeding it coral plankton. twice a week.
I may try putting in on the floor of the tank. the tank is 30" deep.
Clam was in a 250 gal. w/ 1000 watts of MH when I bought it, sitting on the bottom.

I agree as well. See how he does on the bottom and then start to move him up. I'd start to worry if you see him regress more. Good luck.

You said you had moved him.. when you moved him.. did he feel sorta attached? If so .... that may be the problem.
Looks like a Corcea to me.. did we decide what it actually was yet?

Keep an eye on the angels, sometimes they pick on clams.
How about flow where the clam is? to much it won't open.
Don't know what else. Sorry

I dont mean to steal your thread but my clam was doing great for about 3 weeks and was always opened. I spot fed him DT phyto and snow. I left my house for about 3 hours and when i came home he was dead/ ripped apart. Any ideas? I don't have any agressive fish whatsoever and the tank is very well established. He was actually growing at a fairly good rate under my halides. What kind of parasites or anything else should i look for before buying another clam?

Look at the list of fish you have in your tank. Some of those fish will nip at your clam. I would move the clam to another tank.
