Mushrooms=Low Lighting "NO Lighting"
Soft Corals=Medium Lighting "PC's Or VHO"
HardCorals "LPS And SPS=Medium To Strong Lighting "Metal Halide preferred and VHO And PC's For Some LPS"
Hope This Helps Some,

logan thanks , but I think I was not that clear.
do you know what it means by soft coral , hard coral , polyps . example is brain coral . I know that each one needs diffrent additives, like calcium . I do have about eight corals and lots of mushrooms , I also have a hammer coral . but I check my readings and the tank is been going on for 6 months a ok. 90 gal
I do add additives , but I dont go crazy if the readings call for it then i add. I have protein skimmer aqua c , sump wet dry ect great system , so if nothing is broken then leave it.
also I only use distilled water , about 10 gallons a week , but I get fifty gallons a month delivered in 1 gallon jugs , since i changed from tap water to distilled its been diatom free.
by the way I get it wholesale , other wise i wouldnt do it.
thanks

soft corals
do not have a skeleton
anemones
colts
leather
mushrooms
etc..
SPS= small stony polyp
montipora
acropora
etc..
requires calcium to build it skeleton
LPS= Long polyps stony
these are corals that are on a skeleton that have large polyps that extend from them
frogspwn
bubble
torch
brains
etc
needs calcium to build skeleton
Polyps
zooanthid
yellow colonial
etc.
maybe someone else can add more reguirements. most additions for these can be acheived with water changes to replenish trace elements they use
HTH a little and more along the lines of what you were asking

True soft corals, according to the definition, all belong to the subclass Octocorallia. Many corals in the subclass Octocorallia, contain a hard calcium carbonate based skeleton, or a skeleton in some shape or form. Soft corals do not
have to be "Soft," or lack the skeleton, to be considered a "Soft" coral. The Heliopora coerulea, Tubipora musica, and Gorgonians all fit in with soft corals, even though they have a skeleton.
I personally think the whole idea of this thread is quite general, and only gets into the basics of what everything really is, and what its requirements are esspecially when lighting comes in as a factor in care.
soft corals
do not have a skeleton
anemones
FWIW,
Anemones are not corals. They're actually inveritibrates.
