So, I have a cleaner wrasse in my 24 gal tank that we've had in there for about a month - month and a half that we were looking to move tonite to a larger tank with more fish...CAN'T FIND THE WRASSE! we've checked the back pump area, all the crevasses of our rocks...NOTHING! my concern is, if this wrasse is somewhere in the tank, more than likely dead, how is it going to affect my params n everything else??

do you have hermits/crabs?
if so, it's already eaten and there wont be a problem.
if not, it's probably already eaten by the copepods, amphipods, bristle worms, brittle stars, etc.

Sorry to here about the demise of the fish...I have lost one myself....After two years I still miss that fish....A very intertaning and beautiful fish...
Please dont take this as a flame but please dont try another one....
Unless you have a very large system with lots of large fish that will allow it to clean them...I kept mine that way for over 4 years befor it finally died as well...I made the decision not to risk the life of another one.

No parasites to eat = no food
It was cleaning your boyfriends arm.
They are pretty but not fit for captive life, unless you intentionally keep ich infested fish, and that's a pretty expensive way to keep one fish.

When i first got my wrasse (green coris wrasse) we could not find him for days after we put him in the tank. Thinking that he got crushed under a rock and not wanting him to decompose in my tank I tore apart the tank and took almost all of the rock out I started to sift through the sand and scarring me half to death it wiggled out of my hand and dived back into the sand. You could see him in the sand through the glass... Well it was certainly a surprise to learn they slept under the sand. We got another wrasse that is yellow and he does the same thing. At the end of the day and if someone scares them they sleep under the sand. I am not sure if this wrasse sleeps under the sand too, but it may be where he is hiding... ours took weeks for me to even see him afer we first got him.

Different wrassies exhibit different behavior. If the cleaner is dead then please consider the cheapest, and actually effectve way, to have a disease free system which is a quarantine tank. If you do want cleaners in your tank then get a neon goby.

no, we knew it was a bad idea to put her in there, thats why we were moving her to a bigger tank and we knew the life expectancy was minimal. i just want to know if her death and not being able to find her is going to affect my tank or if there's anything i should be watching for. everything seems fine so far and we have a UV sterilizer in the tank, i'm just wondering if i should be monitoring my params more frequently or not

You should not be allowed to have a fish tank...this is just sad that someone would do this to a fish, you should be ashamed.

Why would buy something knowing you are doing the wrong thing, which she admited. You've seen my boat...its pretty nice...A baja 29' Outlaw SST....bet seriously I take the time to make informed choices...and whether i want something or not I will get it if its not going to do well in my tank or captivity in general. There are certain things that are better left in the ocean.

Wait a minute here, you just said that and I do quote "whether i want something or not I WILL GET it if its NOT going to do well in my tank or captivity in general" End quote. Hmmmmmm something fishy is going on here..... BAH hahaha

I guess I misquoted myself. We realized once we got her in there that she was running out of food. This was just a temporary home til the bigger tank was ready and she completely disappeared. Settle down bro.

Kerriann don't sweat tangs comments all he/she does is make rude comments about people on their threads. Any comment they have put is usually along those lines! Some people are just like that.

Good to know we have the voice of reason on the boards. Seriously, what point was that comment? Perhaps you could try to be somewhat constructive instead of dropping in on threads left and right to insert your narrow views.

it's just a little rude is all i'm saying. i didn't post the question to get critized, i have my mother for that. i wanted an answer as to where the fish might be hiding or what i should do for my tank. people come in here with this "greater than thou" attitude and quite frankly i don't think it's necessary. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES - especially in this hobby. at the time we got the cleaner wrasse we didn't know it was a bad idea til after we did some reading. our LFS wasn't thinkin clearly the day he sold it to us as he had just watched his dog get hit by a car. and while no one here trusts their LFS, ours has yet to steer us wrong (except for this small oversight). so, while i appreciate everyone elses comments, i do not feel that i have done anything to deserve to be berated like that

Don't worry about it, ol' TangBoy is clearly a jerk. He's (and I'm only assuming gender) done this in several other threads. We ALL make mistakes in this hobby. What separates some from other is our ability to learn from mistakes, research the field, and never assume we have the absolute answers. Over the years I've learned quite a bit, plus I have a wife who is a biologist so that helps, and my good friend does work with the biology department at Case Western Reserve, so I get help there too. No one is perfect, and you'll find that the majority of people here want to help, not berate.

I think if people will stop purchasing these fish and inverts, like flower pots, flame scallops, cleaner wrasses, moorish idols etc etc. The collectors would stop harvesting them and leave them in the ocean to live a full life where they belong. But then it boils down to knowledge, supply and demand. Also Keri Ann, if you would still like a fun, hearty cleaner, go with the neon goby, ALMOST just as fun, the way your fish will line up and the goby will scan and pick off parasites off one side, then do the other side of the fish.
