OK...I know there is no such thing as a dumb question..LOL
BUTTTTT...if you notice a speck of something on your clam...will it be okay to take the baster and gently blow it off???
IDK if clams do it themselves or need help

I had to put my Maxima clam in a bucket of saltwater and literally scrape dozens of featherdusters off its shell. They were covering/blocking its mantle.

When we had a clam I was told to take a toothbrush and gentley brush the shell of the calm and remove any algea or debris.
. But mine didnt last that long we had pyramid snails in the tank and they ate it..

ANYWAY...I thought I saw a piece of sand in the Squamosa...not on the shell...My question is still...what is the best way to clean it...with a baster, or do I leave it alone.
I don't see the "sand" anymore, but I really would like an answer for the future

Ok, I'll help you clean your clam lol
Just use a baster -- after water changes sometimes I have a lot of sand in my clams.. I just turkey baste it out... doesn't hurt them at all. As far as the shells --- my snail take to them and keep them clean.
Pyramid snails = very bad to clams. They are parasites that will destroy your clam -- usually under the shell where you can't see them.
Sorry to hear about your maxima.... I want more clams in my tanks but scared of the little ones they sell locally.

Thank you Jackri......I just want to be careful with this one....I know they get irritated, and I just wasn't sure if a piece of sand inside will hurt it or not

A healthy clam is pretty resilient. Just don't overly blast him but you can blow the baster across it and that should also make him close up and clean himself as well.

I don't know how much sand you are talking about but these creatures live in water with sand floating - being stirred around them and the take care of themselves. Try not to irritate, best just to leave it be for the most part. That said I do worry about your ray stirring things too much around it though.

I put it in a spot that the ray really stays away from....it was just one piece of sand..lol...I just want to be sure I take care of it the right way
I'll leave it alone...

What's a pyramid snail?
Pyramid snail are little (very little) white snails you can see them on the glass in the morning just before the light come on. and the shell in in the shape of a pyramid. I will try and find one and take a pic. but if you have a six line or a coris wrasse they eat them.
