clown acting weird in hypo

Started hypo 1 1/2 days ago in QT for 5 green cromies, 2 clown and 2 blenny.
One clown has started acting weird, staying by itself in the corner, heavy breathing, black on fins is fading. Other clown is running into it and it just runs away. Salinity is now at 1.015 after 1 1/2 days. He also does that thing where it looks like he is shivering. Very worried.
pH 7.8
Amonia 0.25
Temp 79.4
Salinity 1.015

That small trace of ammonia may be the problem. A few minor water changes and he should be as good as new.

I see several problems here. Your ph is low, did you monitor the ph while you added the fresh water? You have ammonia, did you cycle your qt? Your Salinity should be at 14ppt and your SG at 1.009. Make up some PH adjusted water to 1.009 and do some water changes. Keep your temp stable.

On the PH, I was on my way to pickup some PH buffer this afternoon anyway, I had read that it would be an issue. (So this should be more about 8.4 right)--As of now I have added some buffer, and am monitoring often now.
As for cycling my tank, I had not had a QT setup before now, (I am one of the bad ones, I just started the hobby and what started all of this was I got a PB Tang (I KNOW ABOUT THE NEGATIVES OF THAT NOW TOO) and it got ich, so, this started the whole thing. I have basically as of yesterday setup a 24 Ga Aquacube using 50% of water from my DT and 50% freshly mixed (14 hours due to time issues) and this is what I started my tank at. I had put them in a 10ga for about 10 hours while I went and got the AquaCube, I gave them 14 more hours in this tank before starting the Hypo.
I know I am supposed to be at 1.009, as of the time of this post, I had only been about 32 hours in and was not down to the 1.009 yet. I am about 1.011 now and will be at the 1.009 shortly.
SO, I did use 1 small 1.5-2lb piece of LR for my blenny's and the water from the other tank (50%) to try and help buffer some of the ammonia.
So, that being out of the way.......
I can do water changes until the cows come home if I have to, I am constantly keeping water mixed at 1.009 just in case, and I am watching my Ammonia.
First, these clowns are really friendly, they never seemed phased by anything, never seem stressed, and always (even now) come up to you when you go to the tank, they will eat out of your hands, so I don't feel that I am stressing them really, other than them not having much to hide in (they don't seem to like the PVC pipes and elbows I put in)
The one clown is perfect, acting just like he always did, except he is kinda bullying the sick one now. By bullying, he is swimming to him quickly, maybe a small bump, but not like I would think of fist fighting. The sick one used to be the aggressive of the two, so that is strange. Second it appears that they "vibrate" themselves when they want to tell the other one to "get away"
so I think this is why he is twitching.
-His top fin is kinda shrunk, kinda like it won't stand up as tall as it used to, and has lost some color
-His other fins have lost color and seem to be "frayed" now.
-The pupils of his eyes are smaller than they used to be, compared to the other one that his eyes are black all the way out.
-He is swimming ok, just pretty much hangs out on the bottom in the upright position, not on his side
with the lights out though he does go towards the top like he usually does.
-He is eating ok, he chases the food, and ate about 4-5 mysis shrimp tonight.
I am just wondering if he has something like Brooklynella because I don't see defined ich spots like I did on the Powder Blue Tang, but I do see some slightly lighter tinted orange in a few different spots. I know that I wouldn't be able to get pictures to show that though.
FYI, I did a 40% water change out (20% then in an hour another 20%) to get the PH up and the Ammonia down, Ammonia is now down to marginally above the 0.0 and PH did rise to 8.2
I am soooooo glad I have a RO/DI because I would be broke now buying water from the LFS or even Wal-mart.

I picked some up yesterday. if I do a 5 ga everyday, would this not be better than using amquel? and just keep that in case of a big spike?

You have been doing the right thing viper. You may have to do several changes to keep the ammonia down. It is a sad necessity when using an uncycled qt. I am so glad to see that you are ready for it. Don't put the ph at 8.4. Ammonia is more toxic at a higher PH. Keep it around 8.0-8.2. I am thinking that the larger clown is the female (they change to be what they need to be) The vibration is most likely wanting to mate. Bang Guy breeds clowns, ask him about that. Offer more hiding spots, buy some plastic decor if need be.

What are you using to measure salinity?

I am using a Refractometer. I calibrated it with RO/DI WATER AT 68 DEGREES. FYI, My water is now at 1.009 I took 49 hours to get it there, was scared at the end of going too low.

You're doing it right.
Just as a side note, 1.009 isn't a salinity reading it's a specific gravity reading. Use the 0/000 (salinity) scale on your refractometer and maintain 14ppt.
I would avoid altering the PH, it will just drop back down the next day. Water changes are the best way in my opinion.

OK, I have been buffering my water as I make it so it has 8.2, of course I do the water change 10ga in a 24ga tank, that seems to make the end result about a 8.0, then by next change it is 7.8 or maybe a little lower. So, 1.009 that I read, that is where I want it, right, on my Refractometer, it looks like the 14 is right at 1.009, this is just a symantecs issue right?

Yes, it's just semantics but as a good hobbiest you should learn the difference to avoid confusion.
