If your HD is going bad, then you don't want to keep trying to reboot your system. Every time you try, a few sectors may be corrupted and things just get worse. In that case your best bet is buying a new HD, have a specialist try to move all your data from the existing HD to the new one.
Like I said check to see if it is running ribbon if so then try a new one if it is sata make sure it is not the cable check the easiest things first !!!
You can hear the hd when they go bad without removing the side of the case.
Before you goto geek squad ( they charge about 150% more than anyone else ) try doing the things I said above checking cables etc they go bad all the time. Then slave it and ghost it. You do not need to send it off and pay for osmoene to take three weeks with your machine. You can pm me and I will toss you my number and you can call me and I can walk you thru it before spending a ton of money for overpriced goofs at best buy....
