Joe, if the fish are dying after a cycle it's not from Nitrite poisoning. Probably from the wild PH swings that occur before a system is stable.

I do not believe you could accumulate a toxic level of Nitrite from cycling. I just don't believe you could accidently accumulate a couple hundred ppm of nitrite.

Test away, never any harm to over testing.

Nitrite testing when trying to diagnose an issue is worthwhile. Not because it will harm the fish but because it indicates a disruption in the nitrogen cycle.

Bang my old friend this is just like the good old days. totaly agree with you post especialy the PH swings which tie into is toxicity as it is related nitrites
