Considering leaving the boards.... for good....

I enjoying posting here, I like the friends I've made, and I like helping people..... but these political ATTACK threads have pissed me off one time too many. That's all that comes out of people here anymore, and it's both sides of the isle. So, as a result, I'm starting to think that the community I've come to befriend is filled with raving lunatics who have nothing better to do than spew hate-filled nonsense. There are a bunch of people here who are very friendly, worthwhile, conversationalists. It's also great to help others and learn something in the process.... BUT, I've had it with the 10% of members who fill 80% of the threads with political crap.
So... I'm considering leaving the boards for good....

Monk, 80% of the threads on this forum are not full of political attacks; That's the very reason the "Aquarium" exists- To allow the SWF community a peaceful existence with the bickering, non-hobby related posts a place to conveniently avoid for those who want to avoid it.
I highly suggest if you are burned out with the debate and enjoy the community then participate in the myriad of other sections of the forum and never enter the Aquarium again.
It's a simple solution, and one that prevents us from losing a valuable member.

This is one of the reasons I suggested that the Aquarium posts not be put on the New Posts page and left to their own little section where you had to consciously go to it. They do muck up what I believe the founding fathers of SWF were trying to do when they set the boards up, and that is to open discussion and a place to gain and share knowledge. Hang in there Monk, it can't last too much longer. Maybe just take a hiatus for a while and let the political posts run their course and peter out.
To the mods, please reconsider taking the Aquarium posts off of the new posts page so that all of the noise that happens there does not interfere with reefing......
JMO FWIW

Journey, I appreciate the response and agree that I could try to avoid these threads, but I like the Aquarium.... most of the time.... and it's not really a debate anymore with the political ones.... there is no debate in what most people are doing.
Also, I use the New Posts link quite a bit during the day to see what new threads and posts are going around and can't really avoid some of them when I do that.

Wow..
I had NO IDEA the Aquarium posts popped on the New Posts link. I'll pass that to admin immediately.
Thanks for that info.

it's the people that post the political attack threads who should leave, not you. If you leave they win ...

do what most of us do and not even get into the thread. They drive people crazy. I hate the ones that have a thread name that does not even give you a hint that it is politically related.

most people would never even say the things they say here if they were face to face with people, especially the ones who reduce their arguement to name calling.
Just ignore them, only less than 24 hours to go.

Hopefully you are just frustrated and aren't actually considering leaving.
While I am probably part of the problem, as I often get sucked into the political threads, I also find them annoying when I use the New Posts function. There are just so many of the same debate going on. I'd prefer if the mods could take all of the same debates and reduce them to one thread. JMO.
