Coral Beauty Diagnosis Input

I picked up a coral beauty two weeks ago. He is currently in QT along with a royal gramma. Both fish are showing normal behavior, roaming the tank, looking for food, etc. They are both eating.

The coral beauty has 4 white spots, all located on the edge of his fins. I've watched them closely, and it's been nearly a week and they have been left unchanged. None are present on the gramma. Is it safe to assume this is not a case of ich, but rather Lymphocystis?

Unfortunately, the coral was netted (not by me). I did notice two of his fins had slight splits in them after putting him in QT. Could these be spots simply healing? I'm debating treating with hypo.

I've attached a photo, it's difficult to get a better shot. You can see the white on the edge of the lower back fin.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It does look like lympho. What are you feeding the fish? What are the water conditions in the QT? Start using zoecon or selcon as a supplement.

Hi Beth,

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-under 20
PH-7.9
Salinity-1.021

Currently feeding Sally's San Francisco Bay Brand Frozen Angel and Butterfly Diet.

Listed under the ingredients are brine, mysis, krill, squid, mussel, spinach, and sponge. I can't wait for the coral to go in the DT. There is plenty of rock and algae for him/her to graze on.

I will begin soaking the food in vitamins.

The royal gramma is showing no signs of lymphocystis. He is nearing the 30 day QT mark. What is your opinion on moving the gramma to the DT and continuing to treat the coral in QT?

Thank you for your help.

pH should be bumped up to at least 8. Lympho is something that the fish will always have and may appear off and on. I had a clown that had one spot of lymph which would manifest every time I cleaned the tank due to stress.

Keep the fish in the QT just to ensure that it is indeed lympho. If no ich develops in the next 10 days, then he should go in to the display. Zoecon is a good supplement with Omega fatty acid works very well overall for maintaining fish health as long as other factors such as environment and nutrition is good.
