Possibly. It might also possibly kill things you don't want killed.
Sep's idea above is the best one. Buy a cheap rubbermaid tub, move your live rock and any inverts into it (as there will be very little bio-load, and your live rock is full of beneficial bacteria there will be no cycle). Put a heater and powerhead in (make sure heater cannot burn the plastic tub) and begin hypo on main tank (this assumes you don't have a deep sand bed with lot's of inverts in it).
