hi there :) noob without a tank, still doing research first. I have a question about coralline algae...I know it grows in many different colors and that you first need to introduce the spores into a tank for it to start growing...but is there anyway to get a certain color to grow or does it all depend on whatever type was introduced into the tank?

I believe that it depends on the type introduced into the tank, mine has always been that deep red color. I have seen places that offer a "substance" that might have a mix of coralline spores, but I do not want to put a link in that might be of conflict here on this board. If you know anyone that has a color that you like you could just scrape some off of their live rock, perhaps a good LFS would do this for you.

I believe it depends on your lighting. Intense lighting seems to propogate different colors than low lighting.

I have probably 4 or 5 shades of pink/purple ranging from very light pastel pink to dark maroonish purples and even some red specks poking up hear and there and recently some green. If i had a camera that took decent pictures i would post some. I think that my coralline is the best part of my tank at the moment and would be one of those pictures that people might say ohh and ahh. I have about 75-80% coverage on all my lr and it is starting to get bad on my glass. To bad i have green slime algae on the sand and patches of hair algae that won't go away. I dosed my tank heavily with kalk and didn't really have much that needed it at first. I also ran 285w of vho with 2 super actinic bulbs and 1 white bulb for the first year or so that the tank was up. This past summer i added a 175mh. I think most of mine came from the uncured live rock that i got when i first set it up.

I have green, purple, pink, orange, and just a spot of blue. I am hoping the blue takes off, purple is the dominant color. I didn't do anything special. I just kind of appeared. I have it in both my tanks. I know people say adding chems is bad, but this is what I add and my tank is thriving. This is for the 37 gallon tank. I do 10% water changes weekly and add this weekly.

HI ALL...
QUESTIONS...
CAN I TAKE A SCRAPING OF THE RED CORALINE ALGAE OFF THE
GLASS OF MY REEF TANK AND DROP IT IN MY FISH ONLY TANK?
WILL I START TO GET THE CORALINE ALGAE IN MY FOWLS TANK JUST FROM THE LITTLE BIT THAT I ADD?
OR HOW SHOULD I ADD IT INTO THE FOWLS WITH DECORATIVE DEAD CORAL TANK...? SHOULD I TRY TO PLACE IT ON ONE OF THE PIECES OF DECO CORAL OR LET IT FREE FLOAT OR PLACE IT IN THE WET/DRY...?
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PROPOGATE?
DO I HAVE TO PUT ANYTHING IN THE FO TANK TO MAINTAIN THE CORALINE ALGAE ONCE IT STARTS TO PROPOGATE?
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST AND MANY QUESTIONS....
HAPPY NEW YEAR...
REGARDS....
